Father of UVA Student Otto Warmbier Holds News Conference

Warmbier, a University of Virginia student, was "brutalised and terrorised" by the North Korean regime, his father Fred Warmbier said at the news conference, two days after his son arrived in OH on a medical evacuation flight.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Tuesday that his department was continuing "to have discussions" with North Korea about the release of the other three imprisoned American citizens.

Fred Warmbier, father of Otto Warmbier, speaks during a news conference in Cincinnati, Ohio.

Upon arrival from North Korea, Warmbier was "well-nourished" and his skin was in "good condition", according to the doctors.

He said Trump was very kind and concerned about his son. Warmbier said the family was "extremely grateful for their efforts and concern".

The family feels "relief that Otto is now home in the arms of those who love him and anger that he was so brutally treated for so long", his father said at Wyoming High School, where Warmbier graduated in 2013 as class salutatorian and played soccer.

"I knelt down by his side and I hugged him and I told him I missed him and I was so glad that he made it home", Fred Warmbier said.

Spokeswoman Heather Nauert (NOW'-ert) says the US hopes the other Americans will be able to return home soon.

Kanter said an MRI revealed the extent of the damage to Warmbier's brain. In a video of Rodman meeting with the athletes he told them, "All of you guys should be proud of yourselves, because, you know, a lot of people don't give you guys credit, because this is such a small country, and not many people from North Korea can compete around the world", Rodman said to the athletes.

Warmbier was on a tour of North Korea early a year ago when he allegedly tried to steal a propaganda banner from his hotel and was charged with hostile acts against the state.

Brandywine Realty Trust (BDN) EPS Estimated At $0.34

Kanter said Warmbier has "no signs of understanding language, responding to verbal commands, or awareness of surroundings".

Warmbier, 22, a University of Virginia student from suburban Cincinnati, was medically evacuated to the United States on Wednesday.

At the family's wish, the physicians refrained from discussing what the future holds for Otto. "When Otto was first taken we were advised by the previous administration to take a low profile while they worked to obtain his release".

Richardson says it's a "tragic situation". White calls him a "curious boy" and says his adventurous nature led him to travel extensively during summers.

His use of the phrase involving "strategic patience" mirrored one used by Vice President Mike Pence when he warned North Korea in April about its belligerent behavior. "On behalf of the medical staff, nurses, and associates of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, I can say it is our privilege to care for their son and brother". Doctors planned an update later Thursday.

Fred Warmbier called his son's return bittersweet.

North Korea reportedly said that Warmbier came down with a case of botulism soon after his sentencing, but Dr. Kanter said there was no sign of that condition.

A restaurant shows its support for Otto Warmbier in Wyoming, Ohio, June 15, 2017. He is in stable condition, and "we're trying to make him comfortable", said Fred, but no further medical details were provided; doctors will hold a news conference of their own this afternoon. Check out the latest defense news. "He has not engaged in any purposeful movements or behaviours".

The father of an American college student who was imprisoned in North Korea and was returned to his home state of OH in a coma says the family is "adjusting to a different reality". Warmbier claimed the "pariah regime in North Korea" "terrorized sand brutalized" his son for 18 months.

The university student, who had been on a tourist trip, was sentenced to 15 years hard labor, a punishment the U.S. decried as far out of proportion to his alleged crime, accusing the North of using him as a political pawn. He was then taken by ambulance to a hospital.
