Florida, LSU to meet in College World Series championship finals

LSU pitcher Alex Lange delivers a pitch during the third inning of an NCAA College World Series baseball game against Oregon in Omaha Neb. Friday

There are no guarantees in college baseball, the Beavers know that more than anyone.

LSU will await the victor of Saturday night's matchup between the TCU Horned Frogs and Florida Gators, before a best-of-three series will begin on Monday night from TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha. The second game is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET Tuesday, June 27, while the third and deciding game (if necessary) is slated for 8 p.m. ET Wednesday, June 28. "Those guys have really played their tails off".

"They had the injury bug when we played them and didn't have their full team", Robertson said. "I think what stays true is what they talked about, the culture of a program, our great coaching staff and our awesome administration".

A general view of TD Ameritrade Park during the weather delay of game three of the College World Series Championship Series between the Arizona Wildcats and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers on June 29, 2016 at in Omaha, Nebraska. So it had to be this way. "I threw good pitches to him and got out of it".

"That was my mentality, just take this team as deep into the game as I can, and when it's time, hand it over to the monster".

The Gators hit.262 in the regular season - the lowest mark in coach Kevin O'Sullivan's 10 seasons - but Florida is 50-19 because of stellar defense and dominant pitcher.

Louisiana State ended the Beavers season on Saturday, beating Oregon State 6-1 in the decisive semifinal game at the College World Series.

Florida is in the finals for the third time.

Papierski was the first player to homer twice in a Series game since T.C.U.'s Bryan Holaday in 2010.

Both teams climbed to the top of their respective brackets by winning Saturday to hit the reset for the All-SEC last dance. "They don't understand our mentality, but we're here now". "And we didn't make any big adjustments". "There are two teams left, and I think it represents the SEC very well". "Obviously they can hit the ball a little bit", Singer said. Both teams have changed significantly since then, however. "I put some good swings on some fastballs today, but that wasn't the highlight of the game". It was his third homer of the CWS as he hit one in LSU's CWS opener against Florida State.

Fehmel, who took time off in May after he struggled the first half of the season, made his third postseason start since the rotation was adjusted to account for the loss of Heimlich. For another insane example, how about 1989 Texas A&M, which spent much of the season ranked No. 1 and went 58-7. Kowar, dealt his first collegiate loss in 16 decisions - including 13 this season - struck out 11 but could not get the offensive support he's often enjoyed as TCU used four pitchers to quiet the Gators.

Reynolds has not started a game since 2015. "We're playing for a national championship, so what more incentive do you need?" "And keeping your team in the ballgame and keeping the season alive is pretty awesome".

Oh, so it's a mid-week game.

Schwarz, son of former Major Leaguer Jeff Schwarz and brother of former Gators softball standout Taylor Schwarz, is sixth all-time in runs batted-in at Florida.

But it has been that kind of a World Series for LSU.

Ditto for the Gators, who didn't climb higher than one game above.500 in the SEC standings until April 20.

"We just needed to play up to our ability and have the kids start (to) loosen up and have some fun". "We've got a gritty bunch". "We're so much more used to the field and the environment. It's been ugly at times but we've just found a way". Prior to this year, only one Gators pitcher had ever struck out 9 in a CWS game.

Storylines galore and two - or three - games to settle things between the two SEC foes.

LSU's just living right.

So, it's nearly like LSU doesn't want to win Monday so it can pitch Lange, unless it presents itself. We can't win or lose the national championship in one game.
