Gingrich: Opponents Entangling Trump in 'Legalistic Nightmare'

It did not serve Trump very well when he tweeted the Russian Federation investigation "is a witch hunt", Gingrich admitted to Martha Raddatz, co-anchor of "This Week" on NBC News.

Gingrich, however, defended Trump's infuriation as legitimate because of "the whole Russian baloney".

"There's no evidence that I know of that this person was anything except nuts", Gingrich was quoted saying of the shooter at the time. "Mueller is now clearly the tip of the deep state spear aimed at destroying or at a minimum undermining and crippling the Trump presidency", Gingrich tweeted Thursday.

"Originally [they asked] him, 'have you met with Russians in your campaign role?' said Speaker Gingrich". Nobody on Capitol Hill has any proof I did anything with the Russians. While he repeatedly said it wasn't his place to say whether Trump's actions amounted to an obstruction of justice - an impeachable offense - he said he's "sure" that Mueller would investigate if they did.

"I, frankly, began to switch the minute Comey, in his remarkable public statement, says, I deliberately leaked to a college professor to leak to The New York Times for the goal of getting a special counsel", Gingrich said.

"I don't think that tweet helped him", Gingrich said. "And I don't think people realize this".

Recently, with reports that Mueller is investigating Trump for obstruction of justice, Gingrich came out and said the president can not obstruct justice, despite voting to impeach Bill Clinton over obstruction of justice while in Congress.

Asked whether Trump was confirming the existence of an investigation into himself using the tweet, Gingrich replied: "I have no idea what he thought he was doing". But maybe, maybe there was obstruction.

President Trump is learning "every day a little bit" more. "[.] We're told in this case, this guy goes and says, 'Are they Democrats or Republicans?' Well, that's a pretty directed kind of behavior". No part of the law excludes presidents-I checked. A few days later, however, in a May 11 interview, Trump told reporters that he was thinking of the Russian Federation investigation when he ultimately made the decision to dismiss Comey. "The president is not a subject or target of an investigation". "We've had no indication of that", Sekulow added. "It's that simple. The president is not under investigation".
