Halep and Svitolina advance to French Open quarterfinals

Murray was completely outplayed in the opening set by Nishikori but fought back to win 2-6 6-1 7-6 (7/0) 6-1 on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Kei Nishikori admitted he couldn't remember last year's U.S. Open upset of Andy Murray after booking a quarterfinal rematch with the world No. 1 at Roland Garros on Monday.

Former champion Stan Wawrinka became the oldest French Open semi-finalist in 32 years yesterday when he brushed aside Marin Cilic 6-3, 6-3, 6-1.

Murray defeated 21-year-old Khachanov 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 in two hours and four minutes to register his 650th match win of his career.

"Stan has played fantastically this tournament, I don't think he's dropped a set and past year he was also playing very well, I had to play one of my best matches on clay to win".

"Last year I had to play one of my best matches on clay to beat him".

Pliskova reached the U.S. Open final a year ago, but the Czech player had never been past the second round at Roland Garros in five previous appearances.

Stan Wawrinka does not believe Andy Murray is as confident going into their French Open semi-final as he was when they met at this stage in 2016 and hopes to take advantage of the seeds of doubt sown in his mind.

Murray, who coasted into the last eight with a straight-sets win over Russia's Karen Khachanov, knows Nishikori will represent his biggest test so far.

"I think today was probably the best I have played overall", said the top seed.

- Japan's Kei Nishikori reached his seventh grand slam quarter-final with a 0-6 6-4 6-4 6-0 win over experienced Spaniard Fernando Verdasco.

Hello. Add your message here. "Once I found a bit of rhythm I started to control things a little bit more". I won a very close tiebreak.

"It wasn't easy, but actually (the delay) helped me a lot against Hyeon in the third round", he said. "It was windy, so the timing was hard, but once I was able to get into a rhythm and keep him away from the baseline, that made the difference", said Murray.

"Apart from at the US Open in '14, I'm definitely feeling the best on the court", Cilic said. "It's winning when you're not playing your best that is more impressive".

That took the set to a crucial, yet surprisingly one-sided, tie-break as the Scot waltzed to a 7-0 scoreline - enough to take him one set away from the semi-final in the process.

South African Anderson, who beat Britain's Kyle Edmund in the third round, was 6-3 3-0 down to Cilic when he pulled out. Garcia beat French compatriot in straight sets to reach her first ever Grand Slam quarterfinal.
