'Hated my coach, but stuck with him': Bindra on Kumble-Kohli rift

Sourav Ganguly

India skipper Virat Kohli on Thursday took a dig at former national team coach Anil Kumble's comments in his resignation letter, asserting that sanctity of the dressing room has to be maintained.

The development has come to light after Kumble resigned as the head coach following loss to Pakistan in Champions Trophy 2017 final match. However, Kumble claimed that he had been told for the very first time on June 19 that Virat Kohli had reservations with his "style" of coaching.

Kumble's one-year contract expired at the end of the ICC Champions Trophy but he was given the option to travel with the team to the West Indies for the limited overs series, but Kumble declined.

The BCCI Chief Executive Officer Rahul Johri will seek a detailed report from Indian team's administrative manager Kapil Malhotra on the Anil Kumble-Virat Kohli fiasco after the chief coach made a decision to quit.

There is a lot of turmoil in the Indian cricket team with regards to what has occurred with Anil Kumble's resignation as the head coach of the Indian cricket team.

"We have created a culture over the last 3-4 years that whatever happens in the change room, we've tried to maintain the sanctity of the change room throughout", the 28-year-old captain said.

BCCI official and Indian Premier League Chairman Rajiv Shukla said the board tried to mediate between Kumble and Kohli "but ultimately no outcome could be found out", reported ANI.

While CAC and BCCI did try to broker peace, the relationship between the two was beyond repairs with Kohli not being happy with Kumble's "intimidating" and "headmasterly" style of coaching.

Azhar, a former teammate of Kumble, said it was hard to blame anybody in the whole fiasco but hoped there would be clarity on why the captain and coach could not get along. "We will follow the process while deciding on the next coach", he said, adding that the CAC was not aware whether the BCCI will invite more applications for the post in the changed scenario.

India are now in the West Indies and will play 5 ODIs and one T20 in the Carribean. People are not happy about Kumble's decision and want him to continue his services as the coach.

'But it is a really sad day for Indian cricket.
