Here's a Sneak Peek at the New BMW X3 Features

BMW will officially reveal the new X3 on Monday, but it looks like we've got all the info now. Fortunately for BMW, the 3-Series has been the gold standard in a category for the better part of four decades. Since its introduction in 2003, the X3 has developed into one of BMW's most important models. 0-60 miles per hour takes 6.0-seconds in the xDrive30i, on its way to a top speed of 130 miles per hour. For those wishing to pick on Mustang GTs from light-to-light sprints, the M40i packs a 3.0-liter B58 turbocharged six-cylinder, putting down a potent 355 hp and 369 lb-ft of torque.

If you're familiar with the outgoing BMW X3, the new model represents a huge leap forward. If the old X3 could be accused of anything, it was looking a bit generic, and unfortunately the new X3 fits the same bill. It's a handsome little SUV, but there's nothing groundbreaking here. Wireless Apple CarPlay functionality and satellite navigation are optional. On the other side of the coin, an optional Luxury package adds revised front grille trim and cushier dashboard upholstery. A tall windshield helps improve visibility, and the wide center console looks adquate enough to hold the average American's drinks, knick-knacks, or whatever else they happen to be carrying along.

There's no info on pricing, but if you're interested, head over to your local BMW dealer, who will begin stocking the 2018 BMW X3 later this year in November.

As in the 5 Series, there's ambient lighting with a choice of six colours, and among the options there's a head-up display, acoustic glass for the front windows, climate control with the ability to pump out fragranced air of up to eight different scents, ventilated seats and a large panoramic sunroof that stretches back over the rear passengers.

The website says the M Performance model, the X3 M40i, will hit 62 mph in 4.8 seconds, has a maximum speed of 155 mph and will get an advertised 28 miles per gallon.

BMW tends to keep its trim levels relatively simple and the new X3 will be offered in three core variants - all of which are well equipped.

The X3 comes standard with all-wheel drive, and the rear bias of this system has been increased for better handling. It's not just the platform the X3 shares with 5 Series, but also various chunks of tech. Buyers also can add BMW Gesture Control, which allows users to interact with the infotainment system without having to touch the screen or iDrive controller.

The picture shows the most expensive version - a loaded BMW X3 crossover M40i. Actual launch control. In an X3.

The new-gen X3 will start its worldwide roll-out during the fourth quarter of this year, with a local launch to commence from around November. Eight inches of ground clearance and an nearly Jeep Grand Cherokee-matching fording depth of 19.6 inches mean BMW hasn't completely abandoned the X3's ability to perform off-road.
