Homes Threatened As Brush Fire In Santa Clarita Grows To 100 Acres

The fire, which was started from a traffic collision on the southbound 14 Freeway, near the Sierra Highway off-ramp just north of Placerita Canyon Road, was reported at 12:47 p.m., according to a Los Angeles County Fire Department dispatcher.

It quickly grew to more than 1 square mile (2.6 square kilometers), fed by tinder-dry brush and driven by winds in stifling heat.

The fire quickly grew to about 800 acres (320 hectares), sending plumes of smoke into the air and prompting authorities to shut down all lanes of State Route 14 east of Santa Clarita and issue mandatory evacuation as a precaution.

Becerra says the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station's entire field force - 46 people - is also at the scene.

Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were helping residents of some homes evacuate "out of an abundance of caution".

One structure has also been destroyed, Navarro-Suarez added.

Rivals Hamilton, Vettel clash as Ricciardo wins chaotic race
The Stevenage-born motor racer said: "My pole lap in Montreal was pretty special, but I think this one here tops that". Vettel leads the overall standings on 153 points ahead of Briton Hamilton on 139 and Finland's Bottas with 111.

A vehicle crash sparked a fire in Santa Clarita that quickly spread to more than 800 acres Sunday afternoon, authorities said. No injuries are immediately reported.

Evacuations have been ordered in the Disney Ranch area, and homes are threatened.

At least 200 county firefighters have been dispatched to fight the fire and there was zero containment as of Sunday afternoon, according to the county fire department.

The flames have "jumped the freeway", the dispatcher said.

At this time, Highway 14 has been closed in both directions until further notice.

"Please drive SAFELY. We don't want another traffic collision".
