'I just don't want a poor person' in Cabinet economic jobs

President Donald Trump said he'd prefer not to have a "poor person" in top economic positions in his administration during a 2020 campaign rally on Wednesday.

USA president defends his decision to appoint wealthy individuals to his cabinet as "smart" at a rally in Iowa.

"Somebody said, 'Why'd you appoint rich person to be in charge of the economy, '" Trump told the cheering crowd.

Referring to Gary Cohn, his chief economic adviser, Trump said: "This is the president of Goldman Sachs".

Trump, during his rally, cast off such criticism, saying the appointment of such people as Gary Cohn, a former president of Goldman Sachs, would help the country better represent itself on the worldwide stage.

Trump doesn't "want a poor person" in a position of authority, because in his mind, a poor person must be incompetent. A solar wall. It makes sense.

The president also acknowledged and celebrated recent Republican victories in special elections in both SC and Georgia.

The official pointed to Trump's comment Wednesday night that "those seeking admission into our country must be able to support themselves financially", but declined to offer additional details about that proposal.

The spokesman said Trump wants a "merit-based system for entry that requires self sufficiency".

"We can't have the world taking advantage of us anymore", said Trump. However, he has also targeted refugees and other legal immigrants, proposing to reduce the number who enter the country and establish new standards that would weed out people without high skills or much education.

"I'll tell you about the Democrats", Trump said.

The next presidential election is more than 3 years away, but President Trump is back on the stump in Iowa. "But I like it better this way". "Those electoral maps, they were all red, attractive red", the president said.

Campaign rallies energize Trump by placing him in front of supporters who have stuck by him and are likely to dismiss the investigations as Beltway chatter. It was used to condemn Hillary Clinton's perceived cosiness with Wall Street types.
