Iran investigating Saudi role in attacks

Iran says 5 Tehran attackers had fought for Islamic State

In the wake of Wednesday's attacks, Iran's Revolutionary Guard released a statement accusing the Saudis of being complicit in the attacks.

Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Friday that terrorist attacks would only increase Tehran's hatred against the U.S. and its "stooges" such as Saudi Arabia.

- Iran's state TV is reporting that the country's authorities have arrested seven suspects for supporting the Islamic State-claimed dual attacks that killed 17 people in Tehran.

Analysts suggest that the twin attacks in Iran by IS, whose members are largely Sunni, reflect the shrinkage of the group's "caliphate" in Syria and Iraq under diverse pressure from Shiite militias and airstrikes by a US-led coalition. The incident was the first such attack by the Islamic State within Iranian borders. He concludes by threatening the royal family of Saudi Arabia and promises, "after Iran, it will be your turn".

"A deep conflict between neighbors is actually the last thing we need", Gabriel told the German business newspaper Handelsblatt. Sunni Saudi Arabia denied any involvement in the attacks.

The country's Supreme Leader said the attacks will add to the hatred that Iranians harbor toward the US and Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, President Trump's statement on the attack has prompted criticism in Iran. Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a tweet on Thursday called the White House comments "repugnant" and accused the US of supporting terror. ISIS had claimed responsibility for the violence at the parliament and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini.

The suspected orchestrator of the attack, who has not been named, was tracked down by Iranian intelligence after he had fled the country amid the ongoing crackdown by government forces.

At least 12 people were killed when six attackers mounted simultaneous gun and suicide bomb attacks on Iran's Parliament building and the tomb of the republic's revolutionary founder, in one of the most audacious assaults to hit Tehran in decades. A woman was also arrested.

Iran's Intelligence Ministry also identified five extremists who attacked the Parliament and the mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini on Wednesday and confirmed that they had fought for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

Tehran's stock exchange fell almost 2 percent Thursday after the attacks.
