London Police: Several Casualties After Vehicle Collides With Pedestrians

Metropolitan Police said officers were called to the scene on Seven Sisters Road at 12:20 a.m. today.

One person was in custody and the investigation was ongoing, police said.

Arsenal Football Club's Emirates Stadium is located close by, while further up Seven Sisters Road is the green space of Finsbury Park, which opened in 1869 and gives the area its name.

On March 22, a man drove a rented auto into pedestrians on Westminster Bridge in London and stabbed a police officer guarding the British parliament to death before being shot dead. We will focus on reports from police officials and other authorities, credible news outlets and reporters who are at the scene.

The story, London van "swerved" to hit pedestrians in Finsbury Park: reports, first appeared in the Sydney Morning Herald.

Before that several pedestrians and a police officer were killed in a car-and-knife attack in London.

The Independent newspaper quoted witnesses said the vehicle veered off the road into crowds outside Finsbury Park Mosque, but it was unclear whether the collision was deliberate.

One eyewitness who lives in a flat on Seven Sisters Road told the BBC she saw people "shouting and screaming".

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn wrote on Twitter: "I'm totally shocked at the incident at Finsbury Park tonight".

Prime Minister Theresa May said she would chair an emergency security Cabinet session later Monday.

Mayor of London Sadiq Khan promised extra police to reassure people in the area, especially those observing Ramadan. He complained that the "mainstream media" was unwilling to call the attack a terrorist incident for many hours.

"I've been in touch with the mosques, police and Islington council regarding the incident".

Several hundred worshippers would have been in the area at the time after attending prayers as part of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. "My prayers are with the victims and their families", read the statement.

Others have described seeing police tend to the injured.

Police are seen near Finsbury Park after a van rammed ploughed into worshippers in North London, Britain June 19, 2017.

"They were very nervous, shouting very loud, trying desperately to make some signs to a police vehicle that was. just passing the road", she told CNN.

Britain set its terror at "severe", meaning an attack is highly likely, after a pair of incidents recently.

The incident comes just over two weeks after three militants drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people at nearby restaurants and bars, killing eight.
