London vehicle hits pedestrians, police say 'number' of injuries

The Metropolitan Police said that one man was pronounced dead at the scene and eight others were injured.

British Home Secretary Amber Rudd says police "immediately" treated a fatal incident outside a London mosque as a suspected terrorist attack.

A number of those injured are believed to be Muslims who had left evening prayers after breaking the Ramadan fast.

On May 22, a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a pop concert in Manchester, killing 22 people.

"People are going to wake up tomorrow...communities from all different backgrounds, and they're going to be in shock to hear worshippers in front of a mosque were attacked in the same way that people were attacked on the London Bridge", he said.

She also retweeted a post by Brendan Cox, whose wife Jo Cox was murdered past year by a right-wing extremist, that said: 'When Islamist terrorists attack we rightly seek out hate preachers who spur them on.

A police officer talks with residents in the Finsbury Park area of north London after a vehicle hit pedestrians, on June 19, 2017. "It's a very strong Muslim community in this area and what's happening today is I think the people must be extremely, extremely sad", Al-Sulaman said. The incident took place after the worshippers were leaving the mosque just after the midnight in the local time.

Police confirmed early on Monday that one person had died following the attack, but that person has not yet been named.

Shomrin, a Jewish "Neighbourhood Watch" scheme that covers Stamford Hill, Hackney and Haringey has condemned the attack via Twitter, saying: "We stand together in solidarity with the victims of the horrific terrorist attack in Finsbury Park.Thoughts and prayers with all those affected".

Abdulrahman claimed the driver said, 'kill me, ' as he was held on the ground.

Britain has been on high alert following a pair of attacks in recent weeks that claimed the lives of some 30 people.

There are also reports that a man armed with a knife leapt out of a vehicle and stabbed at least one person.

CNN national terror analyst Peter Bergen said the Finsbury Park neighborhood has a large Muslim population and the nearby mosque had a notorious reputation as a place where Islamist militants used to gather. She said on Saturday the response to the fire had been "not good enough".

He complained that the "mainstream media" was unwilling to call the attack a terrorist incident for many hours. The van driver tried to escape but people grabbed him. "We all live perfectly fine", she said.

"People were shouting this is an act of terrorism, even though he's white", another witness, Hillary Briffa, said, referring to the man taken away be police.

"He was trying to run away but people overpowered him". But the Met said: "At this early stage of this investigation, no other suspects at the scene have been identified or reported to police, however the investigation continues". Vanzella said she went to the window and saw "loads of people gathering" in a corner across the road from her window.
