McGregor fight is finally on

Over a year and a half ago, McGregor did the impossible and knocked-out the pound-for-pound #1 fighter in the UFC, Jose Aldo, in just a matter of 13 seconds to claim the Featherweight Championship.

"(Mayweather) finished the Pacquiao fight - Wednesday he was back in the damn gym", Ellerbe said. Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor are going to fight.

When Floyd Mayweather and Conor McGregor head to Las Vegas for their much-anticipated boxing pay-per-view bout on August 26, the expectations for a circus atmosphere and straight cash for the participants will be large. Many believe that the Irishman and Mayweather can set the record for the most successful pay-per-view event in combat sports history, which is now held by Mayweather vs. Manny Pacquiao. From Conor's standpoint, I like the fact that the fight is at 154 pounds, which is right in his wheelhouse.

Things got a little heated during the interview as ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith said the boxing community was "disgusted" by the fight. Fighters are going to receive at least $100 million each.

Mayweather announced the fight on his Instagram account with a graphic saying "IT'S OFFICIAL!" showing pictures of both fighters and listing Las Vegas as the location while McGregor sent out an earlier tweet stating "THE FIGHT IS ON". Not so much that I think it will be competitively close, but that two of the best combat sports have been able to make this fight happen.

"People will think I'm insane and people will go mad about this but, mark my words, Conor McGregor is going to knock Floyd Mayweather out cold", he told Sky Sports.

The fight has already been tipped as potentially the most lucrative match-up in the history of sport. Oscar De La Hoya has called it a farce and said it will harm boxing regardless of the result.

The fight is expected to gross millions of dollars with Mayweather a solid favorite. He keeps himself well, don't get me wrong, but Floyd Mayweather won't hurt or won't damage Conor McGregor. McGregor is a southpaw, which has given Mayweather trouble in the past, but the gloves will also be bigger than what he is accustomed to in the UFC, which could take away some of his power.

After all, according to Pacquiao, the success of the fight will depend largely on the reception of fans.
