Mike Williams to miss Chargers OTAs with herniated disk

The Chargers selected Williams with the seventh overall pick in the 2017 draft.

Los Angeles Chargers rookie wide receiver Mike Williams will miss the Bolts' remaining organized team activities due to a back injury.

Mike Williams is dealing with a mild disc herniation in his lower back, and will be held out the last two weeks of the offseason program. Any timeline for return being extended - even in June - is a potential red flag.

According to the Chargers, Williams injured himself his first day working out with the team.

"Like I said before, he's getting behind", Chargers Coach Anthony Lynn said. It was a curious statement to make in May.

Williams missed an entire season as a collegiate player at Clemson after fracturing a vertebrae when he hit a goal post the first game of the 2015 campaign.

Williams was a much-needed addition to the Chargers offense, which lost star wide receiver Keenan Allen in the season opener to an ACL injury. Will Williams be ready for the beginning of training camp or will this drag on? Will continue non-surgical treatment. The only reason he would need surgery is if nerve pain into the leg/foot did not go away. Just for everybody to come there who helped me get to this moment, my family (and) my friends. Also, the hope is this is not a sign of recurring back issues throughout the season.
