Minute's silence for victims of Grenfell Tower blaze

George Galloway calls for Theresa May to resign and arrests to be made over Grenfell Tower fire

Cundy said although the building had been subject to a full provisional search "we must now carry out a full forensic and systematic search".

After a botched snap election that lost her party its majority in parliament, the prime minister is facing criticism for her response to the blaze that engulfed the 24-storey apartment block of social housing on Wednesday.

"And it is incredibly hard to describe the devastation in some parts of that building", Cundy said.

The cause of Wednesday's blaze is still under investigation, but anger has mounted in the community amid reports that exterior paneling used in an extensive renovation completed a year ago may have been banned by United Kingdom rules.

'This is an incredible distressing time for families and they have my commitment that we will do this as quickly as we possibly can, ' he said.

Prime Minister Theresa May met Saturday at 10 Downing Street with the families of some of the victims, along with volunteers and community leaders from the North Kensington neighbourhood where the building caught fire.

London Metropolitan Police say 79 people are confirmed dead in the Grenfell Tower fire.

“When the truth comes out about this tragedy, we may find that there is blood on the hands of a number of organizations, ” Lammy said.

Britain held a moment of silence for the victims on Monday, with emergency service workers bowing their heads in respect.

He also said that five people who had been reported missing after the incident have been found safe and well.

Our focus has been on those that we know were in Grenfell Tower.

The Metropolitan Police has launched "wide ranging" investigation, looking at the construction of the building, the recent refurbishment, how it was managed and maintained, and fire safety measures.

UK Chancellor Philip Hammond today indicated that flammable material suspected to have been used was most likely banned in the UK.

Cundy promised an "exhaustive investigation" into the tragedy and said "my heart goes out to those affected".

London Fire Brigade said the service has been "overwhelmed" by the support it has received for all over the world.
