Nik Wallenda's wife performs unsafe stunts over Niagra Falls

Erendira Wallenda hangs from a helicopter as she performs before the start of the NASCAR Sprint Cup series auto race at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord N.C. Five years after Nik Wallenda walked over Niagara Falls

Wallenda dangled from her teeth twice - the first time, for 10 seconds, and the second time, for five, according to the Buffalo News.

The aerialist wore a cable tether around her waist, in accordance with a NY state law that requires a safety support for aerial stunts above 20 feet, but it didn't aid her performance.

"There are no words. She hovered over by the helicopter, she practically beat her husband at it", said Haley Shirley.

Her stunt adds to the lore and legend of the renowned Wallenda family, famous for astonishing audiences around the world with their jaw-dropping stunts executed from dizzying heights.

Erendira Wallenda assured the public that she felt prepared for the feat because of her training.

"Obviously, my dentist doesn't want me to do this for the rest of my life", she said.

Wallenda said she hoped her performance would inspire others - and she offered a special message for other females. "It billows up as you can tell by the spray".

Afterward, she and her husband spoke of the attraction of the falls, which has long attracted daredevils. Erendira Wallenda was tethered to a hoop suspended 300 feet (91 meters) above the water. At one point she'll hang from her toes.

The Niagara County Legislature last month approved spending $35,000 for the act. Erendira Wallenda said watching her husband walk the tight-rope across countries inspired her decision to perform Thursday's stunt.

In the helicopter cockpit with pilot Paul Barth was Wallenda's husband, wire walker Nik Wallenda. "I really believe the rate of return on our investment will be tenfold for us".

Follow along with updates from our staff at Niagara Falls. The Oehler family made a decision to plan their day around it - celebrating their 21st wedding anniversary by watching Wallenda.

In 2012, Nik Wallenda walked 550 metres from the American side of the falls to the Canadian side.
