Nishikori recovers from nightmare first set to book meeting with Murray

Three-time grand slam victor Murray fought back from a set down to beat eighth seed Nishikori of Japan 2-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-0), 6-1 and seal a semi-final spot at Roland Garros for the fourth successive year.

Newsmen report that the world number one came through 2-6 6-1 7-6 (7-0) 6-1 against the Japanese eighth seed at Roland Garros.

Third seed Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland beat Gael Monfils to move into the last eight, and will now face seventh seed Marin Cilic.

Unlike Nishikori, Murray has not forgotten their US Open quarter-final previous year and is looking to make amends for one that got away.

"Stan has played fantastic this tournament so far, I don't think he's dropped a set", Murray said.

The Briton will now hope to replicate last year's win over Wawrinka at the same stage, one of his best performances on clay. In the other semifinal, nine-time champion and No. 4 seed Rafael Nadal faces No. 6 Dominic Thiem, the 23-year-old Austrian who dispatched Djokovic in straight sets.

"How the players are supposed to know that in their head when we're playing at one speed throughout the whole year, and then you show up at the slams, you're expected to speed up by 5 seconds".

"Each match, I feel like I played better".

"Obviously for a couple of points after that I was sacked up, because I was frustrated at that moment", said Murray. "So, yeah, very tough battle but very happy to win today".

"I have never had any issues with him before", Murray said.

He is the oldest man to make the last four since Jimmy Connors in 1985.

The fourth seed claimed his 100th career victory in a best-of-five-set match on clay. "We don't know what's going to happen on Friday, don't know how either of us are going to play, but with the right attitude, right game plan, right tactics, you can still win matches".

While three of the winners in women's fourth-round action Monday - No. 2 Karolina Pliskova, No. 3 Simona Halep and No. 5 Elina Svitolina - are highly seeded, none of the eight players left in that field has ever won a Grand Slam tournament. I think I'm playing well.

"I watched a little bit of the first set".

'He was playing better.

Murray looks for his third grand slam final appearance since last season.

In the women's category, Halep defeated 21st-seeded C. Suarez Navarro of Spain 6-1, 6-1 and Garcia defeated fellow compatriot Alize Cornet 6-2, 6-4 in an all-French affair again on Philippe-Chatrier.
