One Dead, 10 Injured After Van Plowed Into Crowd Leaving London Mosque

London Mayor Sadiq Khan called the incident "a horrific terrorist attack" in a post on Facebook on Monday morning.

One person was killed and ten were injured after a rented white van hit people outside a Muslim welfare centre in Finsbury Park, north London in the early hours of Monday morning.

A Sky News producer at the scene said the crash took place shortly after midnight local time as worshipers were leaving the Finsbury Park Mosque at midnight Ramadan prayers. The Guardian reported that 10 people were hurt, three of them seriously. One man has died and eight people have been injured in the "attack", which is being investigated by the Metropolitan Police's Counter Terrorism Command.

Britain, especially London, has been on edge over several recent incidents, including last month's terror bombing in Manchester and the recent vehicle attack and stabbing near London Bridge. If confirmed would make it the fourth since March in Britain and the third to involve a vehicle deliberately driven at pedestrians.

Earlier, she chaired an emergency meeting of Cabinet members, police and security personnel, the Downing Street press office tells CNN.

Finsbury Park mosque was once a notorious hub for radical Islamists but has entirely changed in recent years under new management.

At least one person was dead and several others injured in the incident.

A witness who lives opposite the scene told the BBC there was a white van stopped near the Finsbury Park mosque. "I didn’t see the attacker himself, although he seems to have been arrested, but I did see the van".

Earlier this month on London Bridge, Islamic extremists used a vehicle and then knives to kill eight people and wound many others on the bridge and in the popular nearby Borough Market area.

Witnesses said the road was "backed up" with police cars, ambulance and fire engines.

The leader of the opposition Labour Party, Jeremy Corbyn, in whose constituency the attack took place, said he was "totally shocked".

Police said that one man had been arrested at the scene and that no further suspects had been identified.

The Muslim Association of Britain "unreservedly condemn [ed] this evil terror attack" and called on police to increase security in mosques.

Among those known to have worshipped at the mosque during al-Masri's time at the mosque were alleged shoe-bomber Richard Reid, and Zacarias Moussaoui, the so-called "20th hijacker" of September 11.

The Muslim Council says a van has "run over worshippers" leaving the Finsbury Park mosque.

British security officials, speaking on condition of anonymity in line with official policy, said hate crimes directed at Muslims have increased almost five-fold in the wake of several attacks in Britain. His attack killed five people.

"All my thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones and the emergency services on the scene", she said.

As they pull the sweaty, red-faced man from clutches of the mob, people continue screaming at him.
