Pakistan Cricket Team Shocks India To Win Champions Trophy

India Against Pakistan On Cricket Field, MS Dhoni With Pak Captain Sarfraz's Son On Twitter

Revelation and redemption helped Pakistan turn world cricket's order upside down as Fakhar Zaman's maiden one-day worldwide century and Mohammad Amir's brilliant new-ball spell underpinned a landslide 180-run win over India in the Champions Trophy final.

After the first game, played against the team they can not lose to, Pakistan were dead and buried, with the only question being which airline they would use to book their flight back home.

But a brilliant century by Fakhar Zaman laid the foundations for an imposing total of 338 for four and Mohammad Amir came up with a devastating opening spell to rip out the cream of India's batting, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan.

Sarfraz, who had captained Pakistan to Under-19 World Cup 2006 triumph, especially credited the bowlers for dismissing India for 158.

Fakhar Zaman raises his bat after scoring maiden century against India.

"When players (Fakhar Zaman) like that get going on their day, it becomes really hard to stop them because I think 80 percent of his shots were high-risk - and they were all coming off", said Kohli.

The United Arab Emirates has become Pakistan's cricketing home in recent years but a World XI is scheduled to tour their country in September for three Twenty20 games.

Hardik Pandya smashed 76 off 43 balls, hit half a dozen of sixes to provide some entertainment, before being run-out due to a frightful mix-up with Jadeja.

Then they beat South Africa, Sri Lanka and England to reach the final.

Fellow opener Azhar survived run out chances on 15 and 29.They made India pay for the let-off and misses.

Their captain Sarfraz Ahmed said they had quickly forgotten the opening loss to India and simply focused on the next game in their bid to win the Champions Trophy for the first time.

Pakistan Observer which has good readership in North Pakistan hailed the team's title win.

After India had won the toss, Fakhar, on three, was caught by wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni off a Jasprit Bumrah no-ball and the 27-year-old left-hander took full advantage to make his first worldwide century. He demolished Pakistan, and India completed its highest successful ODI chase with 17 balls to spare.

Jadeja was out in the next over, as India's last four wickets went for six runs, medium-pacer Hasan Ali taking two of them to extend his tournament-leading tally to 13.

"Hopefully this win, everyone will remember - not today, not tomorrow, but for a very long, long time", said Sarfraz, the wicketkeeper who held the final catch that sparked wild celebrations.

The situation went from bad to worse for India after opener Rohit Sharma (r) was dismissed lbw for no runs in the first over.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif meanwhile issued a statement congratulating the team, saying they "deserve the nation's profound gratitude and appreciation".

# Mohammed Hafeez scored an unbeaten 57 off 37 deliveries to help Pakistan post a challenging total of 338/4.

With India boasting three of the top five run-scorers from the tournament in their upper order, the game looked destined for a tight finish. He ended up with a knock of 76 runs off 43 balls.

Dhawan was out to an Amir cross seamer, and India was 33-3.Yuvraj Singh and Mahendra Singh Dhoni could still rescue India, but Singh was hit pad first by spinner Shadab, confirmed by video review.
