Pakistan rout India to win maiden ICC Champions Trophy title

Bangladesh's Tamim Iqbal is bowled by India's Kedar Jadhav during the Champions Trophy semifinal cricket match at Edgbaston Birmingham England Thursday

Pakistan celebrate winning the ICC Champions Trophy Action after beating India at The Oval in London June 18, 2017.

Pakistan have been starved of worldwide cricket in their own country since an attack on the Sri Lanka team bus in 2009, forcing them to play their "home" series at neutral venues and Mohammad Hafeez, who made an unbeaten 57 off 37 balls, said the win was for the Pakistan public.

They were eventually dismissed for 158 in reply to Pakistan's 338 for four, which featured Zaman's 114, the left-handed opener's maiden one-day global hundred coming in just his fourth match at this level.

While Fakhar Zaman starred with the bat, Mohammad Amir played a big role as he dismissed Rohit Sharma, Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan to help Pakistan complete a big win. "After the India (group) match I said to my boys, the tournament is not finished yet". Hopefully, this win, everyone will remember not [just] today or tomorrow, but for a very long time. When we arrived here, we were ranked 8th, and now, we are the champions.

Amir, whose career was almost ended across London by a ban and jail sentence for his involvement in a spot-fixing scan during a 2010 Test at Lord's, was in superb form after a back spasm forced him out of the semi-final win over England.

"Amir was the guy that could do that for us", said Arthur.

Kohli accepted his side had been second best as he acknowledged Pakistan's "amazing tournament".

Fakhar left to a standing ovation and handed the baton to Babar, who saw Shoaib Malik hole out off the economical Bhuvneshwar Kumar before failing to clear the rope himself, caught off Kedar Jadhav at long off.

Hardik Pandya cheered India fans in a capacity crowd as he hit three sixes off successive balls to bring up a dashing fifty.

Then one ball after Kohli, the world's leading ODI batsman, was dropped at slip off Amir, the bowler had him caught at point by Shadab Khan.

India eventually collapsed to 158 all out as they suffered their heaviest defeat in terms of runs in 129 ODIs against Pakistan.

"But if there is one thing you can say about the Pakistan cricket team, it is that it exists to confound everyone".

Yuvraj Singh was lbw to leg-spinner Shadab and former captain MS Dhoni, the hero of many an India rescue mission, holed out in the deep.

Fakhar shared a fluent century opening partnership with Azhar Ali (59) and unleashed a barrage of attacking strokes all around a sun-kissed ground to give Pakistan real hope of upsetting the defending champions.

The momentum remained with Pakistan as Mohammad Hafeez pummelled three sixes and four fours, putting on an unbroken 71 with Imad Wasim (25no) who enjoyed a remarkable slice of luck when a delivery from Bumrah bounced forcefully off his wicket without dislodging a bail.

Any thought of the unlikeliest of victories was snuffed out when Pandya was run out by the length of the pitch after a mix-up with Jadeja.
