Philadelphia 76ers in trade talks with Boston Celtics for first-overall pick

Indiana Pacers forward Paul George

Fultz, the talented guard out of Washington who has always been the presumptive No. 1 pick in the draft, worked out for the Sixers on Saturday instead of a previously scheduled meeting with the Celtics.

Jackson is projected to fall third-overall to the 76ers. While that is a fine performance, Fultz has shown better scoring abilities from a position that the Boston Celtics do not already have a young player lined up to fill.

If Philly follows through on its current plans to take Fultz, he would provide the 76ers with a major scoring threat and ballhandler who could take some of the playmaking and decision-making pressure off Ben Simmons, who the Sixers took first overall in last year's Draft.

Both Boston and Philadelphia would benefit immensely if they were to trade draft positions.

After Zagoria's tweet, Bleacher Report's Jonathan Wasserman said that all three teams involved may end up pulling off a blockbuster trade involving a ton of picks, Butler and Philadelphia's Jahlil Okafor. He was charged with property damage after following a woman to her vehicle, shouting at her, and reportedly causing over $3000 worth of damage to the auto.

While it is widely assumed in league circles that the Sixers would target Fultz with the No. 1 overall pick, sources say Philadelphia and Boston are likewise high on Kansas forward Josh Jackson. While (according to basketball-reference) the Celtics' average age is only 25.9 (only.9 years older than the Suns as a whole) they would seem to surely prefer to add proven star talent to help the team compete with the Cleveland Cavaliers right away. If it is not, this could be a franchise-altering decision.

But if Danny Ainge wants a legitimate chance to win a championship within the next ten years, the number one pick must stay in the hands of the Celtics.
