President Trump not under investigation in Russian Federation probe, lawyer says

On CNN, Sekulow said it was a response to an article in the Washington Post alleging Trump was under investigation for obstruction of justice.

One of President Donald Trump's personal lawyers said in television interviews on Sunday that the president was not under investigation for obstruction of justice, but when pressed on the assertion, said he was not certain. "That the president was not and is not a target of investigation", Sekulow answered.

Sekulow, however, emphasized that Trump was referring to the "fake" story in The Washington Post and denied that the tweet was an admission by the President that is being investigated.

Sekulow said that the tweet was merely a response to an anonymously-sourced Washington Post story, which reported that special counsel Robert Mueller had indeed expanded his investigation of Russian involvement in the US election to include Trump.

"The president is not under investigation by the special counsel", Sekulow told NBC's Chuck Todd.

"That response on social media was in response to the Washington Post piece. He can not in a Twitter statement include all of that in there, but the Washington Post statement came out that morning".

President Trump's legal team and allies will mount a defense of the president during the Sunday shows this week after Trump acknowledged being under investigation for firing FBI Director James Comey. Mueller was appointed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and has expansive powers to probe any matters that develop from his initial investigation.

On CBS's Face the Nation on Sunday, Sekulow also said that he believed the president would finally explain whether or not there were recordings of his conversations with Comey, as Trump has also tweet-implied, sometime this week.

And now his lawyer, Jay Sekulow, has made the freakish claim that is is not Trump's actions which were potentially unconstitutional, but rather the investigation into those actions itself. "The president is not a subject or target of an investigation".

A USA official who is familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity told Reuters on Thursday that Mueller was also examining whether Trump or others tried to interfere with the investigation. "That's it. Simple explanation", Sekulow told CNN's "State of the Union". So I appreciate you trying to rephrase it, but I'm just being really direct with you, Chris.

"The MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN agenda is doing very well despite the distraction of the Witch Hunt". Mr Rosenstein has reportedly told colleagues he may need to recuse himself from that investigation.

He has already been subpoenaed by the House intelligence committee.

Fellow panelist Angus King, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, estimated that investigators are just 20 percent into their probe, which could last for months. "There's a lot of information yet to go".
