President Trump's Attorney Will File Complaint Against James Comey

President Donald Trump speaks during a news conference with Romanian President Klaus Werner Iohannis in the Rose Garden at the White House Friday

Comey's decision to share with reporters, through an intermediary, details from those conversations, and his insistence on testifying in public attest to his determination to confront the president head-on.

Donald Trump and his team already seemed prepared to moving towards a contest of credibility with former FBI Director James Comey, but at a White House press conference this afternoon, the president took the dispute to a whole new level.

Hoping that American democracy might survive Trumpism; hoping that some egregious political mishap might bring an end to this presidency - that bald-faced lying, collusion, or obstruction powerful enough to force this Republican-controlled Congress to impeach; hoping that this presidential moment - our national nightmare - isn't the outcome of our slow and steady capitulation to the evils of capitalism no matter who occupies the White House.

"There's some jobs where the controversy would not be a benefit, but that's why I see him ending up in a place where he can be himself", said Evan Barr, a former federal prosecutor in New York City who worked under Comey in the us attorney's office. "That's another thing he said", the reporter asked.

Comey delivered scathing testimony a day earlier in a highly anticipated Senate hearing, saying Trump sought to derail a probe into onetime national security advisor Michael Flynn - at best, a political miscalculation, and at worst a criminal obstruction of justice.

The issue is whether Trump tried to direct Comey to stop investigating former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn's ties to Russian Federation. In Comey's opinion, he was sacked not because of his acumen for the job or the bureau's overall performance, but because he was pursuing an investigation that President Trump wanted dropped.

Trump cryptically refused to say whether those private exchanges were taped - a matter at the heart of the conflicting accounts of what passed between them at a time when Comey was leading an FBI investigation into Russia's interference in the presidential election and its ties to the Trump campaign.

"I'll tell you about it over a very short period of time", Trump told reporters. Regardless, he said on NBC, "I think Jim Comey's credibility is at about zero right now".

"I do think he is unquestionably, if this thing goes anywhere, one of the star witnesses", said Robert Anderson, a retired Federal Bureau of Investigation executive assistant director. "He's a leaker", Trump said. Trump said he would. "In business you can use and abuse bankruptcy, as Trump has done, but it's just not an option in government". The president first suggested the existence of such tapes after Comey revealed that he wrote memos of his private conversations with Trump leading up to his firing. The House and Senate Russia probes have both subpoenaed him and his businesses.

Trump wrote in his Friday morning tweet, "WOW, Comey is a leaker!" He also said he didn't ask Comey to drop an investigation of Flynn. Kasowitz is expected to file a complaint with the Justice Department inspector general next week, according to a person close to the legal team who agreed to speak before the filing on condition that the person's name is not used.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, declined comment for this report. We are doing really well. I mean think of it, I hardly know the man.

"I didn't say that", Trump insisted Friday, before heading to his New Jersey golf club in Bedminster where he will spend the weekend. "No, not until we look into all this".

Trump wrote earlier on Friday on Twitter that the former FBI head had vindicated him by telling the Senate Intelligence Committee that the President had not been personally under investigation in the Russian Federation probe. They asked the White House to produce them to the committee by June 23.

Mr Trump also didn't rule out the broad hint he dropped in one of his tweets that there might be audiotapes of his White House conversations with Mr Comey. The House oversight committee has been on Flynn since before Trump even took office - and successfully obtained his security clearance application, exposing that he may have broken the law by leaving off payments from Russia's RT network.
