Prosecutors rest their case at Bill Cosby's trial

She said feelings of self-blame and confusion are exacerbated if intoxicants are involved. Defense lawyers Brian McMonagle and Angela Agrusa and their internationally famous client have until Monday morning to decide whether to call any witnesses. Since Cosby may or may not testify while his attorneys present their case, the deposition and police interviews could be the only times that his own words will be heard during the trial.

Cosby, 79, was charged in 2015 with felony aggravated indecent assault shortly before the statute of limitations on Constand's claim expired. has learned Cosby's lawyers are now debating whether to call the 79-year-old comedian to the stand in his own defense.

Cosby said in the deposition that he got the drugs purely because "you people" were using them "to party with" and "I wanted to have some just in case".

The judge dismissed jurors about 3:40 p.m. Friday. During his trial at the Montgomery County Courthouse outside of Philadelphia today, the prosecution delved deeper into the sworn statements the comedian gave in 2005 and 2006. Phone conversations between Cosby and Gianna Constand circa 2005 had previously been played for the jurors, but the reading of the decade-old deposition Friday added context regarding Cosby's intentions.

"What am I hoping to get [by speaking to the Constand women by phone] if I'm guilty of drugging somebody?" he said in the deposition. During his civil deposition, Cosby admitted to stockpiling Quaaludes with the sole objective of giving them to "young women he meant to have sexual contact with", reports Daily Mail.

During the deposition, Cosby told lawyers that he knew his finances could suffer if the public was told he had drugged and assaulted someone. A toxicologist later testified as an expert witness about the effects of quaaludes, which primarily includes drowsiness and side effects that include dry mouth and grogginess. "It can and has been used as a drug to facilitate sexual assaults", testified Rohrig, adding quaaludes, which are now illegal in the USA, are also sedatives and can cause similar side-effects. The prosecution will continue to lean on Cosby's past deposition, where he apologizes and admits to digitally penetrating Constand.

According to Page Six, Cosby told investigators that he apologized to Constand's mother for giving her daughter pills and then sexually touching her - because he was anxious how he'd appear.

Rohrig also testified that Constand's symptoms were similar to the physical effects associated with quaaludes, a powerful sedative. He said he gave Benadryl to Constand to "relax" her on the night of the alleged assault.

Cosby accuser Andrea Constand waited a year to go to police.

Valliere talked about how not all victims resist or try to escape, especially if the assailant is someone they trusted, and why they might delay reporting the incident and even maintain contact with the attacker.

"Most (assaults) are never reported to authorities, so they're delayed forever", she said. A lawyer on the Bill Cosby defense team appeared to be outraged in the Philadelphia courtroom after hearing the expert testimony of Dr. Veronique Valliere, and immediately demanded that the judge declare a mistrial because of it.

"I've warned this court that this woman has been rooting for the Commonwealth in this case", he said, saying Valliere has made posts on social media "declaring victory".
