Qatar Airways CEO warns of 'lasting wound'

"The sky, there should be no borders up here", a voice says at the start of the video over a blue sky and clouds.

"We don't really see an escalation, but isolation".

In a sign that the dispute is not cooling off, Anwar Gargash, UAE's state minister for foreign affairs, warned earlier on Monday that Qatar's isolation could "last years".

The Gulf diplomatic dispute has opened a rift between some of the main United States allies in the Middle East, after Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the UAE and Bahrain cut off tiny-but-wealthy Qatar from trade, travel and diplomacy two weeks ago. Qatar rejects the accusations.

It is still possible to sail to Qatar from countries which are not part of the boycott, so the company hopes to be able to sail through Salalah in Oman.

PARIS, June 19 Qatar Airways is in the process of asking the US department of Homeland Security to visit its hub in Doha and carry out an audit of security at the airport in light of the restrictions on large electronics devices in cabins, the carrier's CEO said.

Last year, Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani was the first foreign leader to phone Erdogan after a failed coup in Turkey.

"There must be some people who are wise in Qatar and who will prevail, hopefully within the ruling family", Gargash said. "The best way for them to mitigate it is by doing an audit on the airports". "I advise all Muslims to cooperate in order to achieve righteousness and piety".

On June 5, Saudi Arabia and its allies cut all diplomatic ties with Qatar, pulling their ambassadors from the gas-rich emirate and giving its citizens a two-week deadline to leave their territory. They have also barred direct flights to Qatar's capital, Doha.

Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Bahrain and Egypt said Friday they were restricting travel for Qatari owned or registered flights and that there were "no limitations" to worldwide airways. The crisis has raised major concerns over instability in the region. Adding to the growing tensions, Qatar announced Monday it had begun joint military exercises with the Turkish army. The forces conducted their first training at the Tariq bin Ziyad military base, the ministry said.

Sheikh Mohammed said that Qatar had not received any demands from the Gulf states or from countries seeking a diplomatic solution, including Kuwait, the United States, France and Britain.

The Gulf political crisis has also affected countries outside the region. The dispute has opened a rift among some of the main US allies in the Middle East, with President Donald Trump backing tough measures against Qatar even as his State Department and Defense Department have sought to remain neutral. In 2016 Ahmet Davutoglu, the then Turkish prime minister, visited the base where 150 troops had already been stationed, according to the Turkish daily Hurriyet. Saudi Arabia sealed Qatar's only land border, a key route for food imports.
