Queen says Britain sombre but steadfast

The Queen has said it is "difficult to escape a very sombre national mood" following tragedies in London and Manchester. "United in our sadness, we are equally determined, without fear or favour, to support all those rebuilding lives so horribly affected by injury and loss", she said.

She said earlier that the national mood is somber but that Britain is resolute in the face of adversity.

While Queen Elizabeth pays respects to the victims of Manchester, Grenfell, and the hero of the Westminster Bridge tragedy, another storm is brewing with Prime Minister Theresa May.

Queen Elizabeth II, accompanied by grandson Prince William, visited the site and met with the fire-fighters, volunteers, community members and kin of the victims and those missing.

Residents furious over the handling of the Grenfell Tower disaster descended on the local town hall in west London Friday, shouting, "We want justice". The woman was desperately searching for her husband who, according to The Mirror, was trapped in an elevator during the fire.

The UK has promised a full public inquiry, and announced a fund of 5 million British pounds ($6.4 million) to help those affected by the blaze.

May had faced criticism for not meeting with survivors in the immediate aftermath, unlike Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan.

Police have opened a criminal investigation into the circumstances of the blaze. A team of senior detectives is investigating.

The Queen also met those injured in hospital after the Manchester suicide bomb in May where she spoke to people who had witnessed the explosion and saw people killed. She then inspects the troops, riding past them in a carriage. "I will help you from up there".

Omar, 25, survived, but the brothers were separated as firefighters tried to rescue them from the burning building early Wednesday.

Public anger was mounting as residents and neighbours demanded answers for how the blaze spread so quickly amid reports that contractors installed a cheaper, less flame-resistant type of exterior panelling in a renovation of Grenfell Tower that ended in May 2016. She says "the support on the ground for families who needed help or basic information in the initial hours after this appalling disaster was not good enough".

Service on two London Underground lines has been partially suspended because of concerns about the safety of the high-rise in the fire that killed at least 30 people.

"That's why I came straight back to Downing Street and I ordered a public inquiry".
