Queen Sees `Somber Mood' After Fire as Doubts Mount About May

Grenfell residents in ‘passionate angry’ exchanges with PM at Downing Street

London mayor Sadiq Khan has said that tower blocks in the city built during the 1960s and 1970s could be torn down following the Grenfell Tower fire.

This included the 30 already confirmed dead, according to Commander Stuart Cundy.

After having spoken to many members of the congregation as well as others who came in after the service to see him, Khan paid tribute to the local community for its resilience but said a feeling of anger remains.

The Queen's actual birthday is April 21, but traditionally British monarchs have an official birthday in the summer months when there is a better chance of good weather for birthday events.

"This was a awful tragedy that took place". It is feared many are trapped inside the blazing building as the fire broke out in the wee hours of Wednesday.

The London Evening Standard reported that extra police would be on duty around the palace to ensure the area is secure following the London and Manchester attacks, with armed police marksmen positioned on nearby roof tops.Plain clothes police officers will also be mingling among the crowds to bolster the uniformed police presence.

"In circumstances where foam plastic insulation is permitted, the insulation must meet stringent fire performance testing to limit the amount of smoke produced and slow the spread of flame, or the insulation must be protected by non-combustible material", Cripps said in an email.

The Prime Minister has become the target of anger over her response to the disaster, which has left 58 people presumed dead. There is ample food and water but very little privacy or proper bedding, and with the tower destroyed, no one knows where they will be relocated or for how long.

Separately, hundreds of protesters stormed the local town hall chanting: "We want justice". The British government has announced a 5 million-pound ($6.3 million) emergency fund for the victims.

Engineering experts and fire safety specialists believe the building's exterior cladding may have quickly fueled the blaze, overwhelming fire protection devices.

"Everything possible will be done to help them", the prime minister said of the victims in a statement.

Reports suggest that a renovation project on Grenfell Tower past year intentionally did not include safety devices such as sprinklers and doors created to keep the fire from spreading.

The building had been home to a diverse group of residents, many of them from Sudan, Eritrea, and Syria.

The Home Office said it is "making arrangements" for the family of 23-year-old Syrian refugee Mohammad Alhajali - the first victim to be formally identified - to travel to the United Kingdom for his funeral.

A short walk away, however, are apartments and houses that cost millions and are home to a wealthy elite. And obviously that will be a subject that the (public) inquiry will look at.

Asked if there were angry exchanges, he said: "We tried to hold it well as a meeting".

Neither side immediately released details. Residents want answers on why the fire spread so quickly, trapping numerous estimated 600 residents.

A criminal investigation has been launched after which Theresa May has said there will be a public inquiry - but victims and campaigning are calling for an inquest which is independent of the government and has more powers to investigate.

Police have been struggling to come up with a list of who was in the building when the fire started, making it hard to determine how many died.

Volunteers and community organisers involved in the Grenfell response have repeatedly voiced frustration at the lack of official support from the council and the central government.
