Real do not want Ronaldo to leave: Salgado

Rio Ferdinand 2

Prosecutors for Madrid's economic crime unit alleged last week that Mourinho used Koper to fabricate more than £1m in tax deductible business expenses to reduce his tax bill in Spain.

The investigation was opened after the Spanish tax authorities informed the Public Prosecutor's Office about perceived discrepancies in the data, with a Madrid judge now set to determine the next stage of the process.

Ronaldo isn't the first major football star to be accused of defrauding the authorities, as Lionel Messi has been accused of similar crimes as early as 2016.

The PSG star has admitted to two counts of tax fraud during his four-year stint at Real Madrid.

It is understood that it then prompted Ronaldo to come to the decision of quitting Real Madrid.

His charges are related to the player's image rights with Los Blancos in 2012 and 2013.

Both his former club Manchester United and French giants Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for Ronaldo.

In a surprising turn of events, Ronaldo is apparently no longer interested in leaving Real Madrid.

The former Sporting Lisbon youngster refused to answer questions on his club future after winning the man of the match award, instead gave a pre-prepared statement talking only about Portugal's triumph.

Marca reported that United manager Jose Mourinho will instead opt to pursue Alvaro Morata. Cristiano Ronaldo had threatened to leave Real Madrid over a perceived witch hunt by said authorities in relation to his tax affairs.

Spanish newspaper El Confidencial revealed the 32-year-old had been invoicing the majority of his advertising revenues through an Irish company. Ronaldo signed a new five-year contract at Real nine months ago with a one billion euros buy-out clause so there are sure to be difficulties unless Real president Florentino Pérez can be persuaded to reign in his demands.
