Reds closing in on Van Dijk signature

Virgil van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk has indicated that he would prefer to sign for Liverpool than Manchester City or Chelsea, though a deal must first be struck with Southampton.

The Dutch worldwide has attracted interest from the upper echelons of the division with the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Liverpool among the clubs to be strongly linked in recent weeks.

Southampton are reported to be holding out for a transfer fee of £60m for Van Dijk as they are obligated to pay 10% of any fee they get for the defender to Celtic.

Liverpool have signalled their intent, convincing Virgil van Dijk to choose Anfield over Stamford Bridge and the Etihad.

The Guardian report that Van Dijk has told Liverpool he wants to move to the Anfield club although a fee is yet to be agreed with Southampton.

Liverpool appear to have won the race to sign the in-demand centre-half, who was at also at the top of Chelsea and City's wishlists.

Personal terms have not been finalised with Van Dijk, but Liverpool are prepared to match the contract offer from Manchester City which could be as much as £200,000 a week.

Van Dijk has not played since late January, when an ankle injury against Leicester City ruled him out for the remainder of the 2016/17 campaign.

Van Dijk's profile has risen exponentially since he moved to the south coast from Celtic two years ago.

The 27-year-old made 29 appearances in the Premier League for Liverpool this season, and a further three in the League Cup. The Reds have already signed young striker Dominic Solanke from Chelsea and are reportedly looking to sign Mohamed Salah from AS Roma as well. It's not supporters' money and will do wonders to improve the side - I have only good things to say if this proves true.
