Rocket League Cross-Platform Play Is Being Blocked by One Company

Now with a Nintendo Switch version of Rocket League in the works, due out sometime in Holiday 2017, it seems like a surefire way to build even more on the game's success and longevity.

The fact that somebody would kind of make an assertion that somehow we're not keeping Minecraft players safe, I found - not only from a Microsoft perspective, but from a game industry perspective - like, I don't know why that has to become the dialogue.

Since Sony is already allowing cross play with the PC, which is arguably the least secure of the available platforms, Dunham argues that it would make no difference if the other consoles are added into the mix. This can not be helped as the Xbox X looks set to become the world's most powerful gaming console when released and it will bring out the best of Rocket League. However, it wasn't long before it was confirmed that Rocket League cross play would not include PS4.

Speaking to Eurogamer this week, Sony's Jim Ryan said the company doesn't have "a profound philosophical stance" against cross-platform play and pointed to previous examples of such play between PlayStation and the PC.

The E3 2017 is over, giving video games a big new push especially to the Nintendo Switch. We run our own matchmaking. Now, is this Sony not playing ball? If we can pass that, we can pass any of the other security protocols.

The zombie apocalypse game Days Gone looks seriously impressive, with stunning graphics, while the same can be said for God of War, Shadow of the Colossus and Spider-Man.

What are your thoughts on Rocket League access to all? Most of the development for cross-platform play is presumably down to the developer, rather than Sony to enable a network to support it. He says that if he has a "Samsung Galaxy" and his brother has an "iPhone", it does not mean they can not call each other.

So why would Sony tell them no? For Rocket League, however, the game will run at 720p regardless of if the Switch is docked or being used in tablet mode. That's gaming now. Gaming should be community-driven. Get the news you can use. At this point, though, the company either doesn't want to talk about what those compromises are or simply doesn't know what changes it'll need to make.
