Russia will now view US aircraft as targets in Syria

The official did not say which weapon has used to shoot down the Syrian plane.

Advanced Russian air defense systems in Syria-which include the powerful S-400 and S-300V4-have been tracking USA and allied aircraft flying over that war-torn nation for months. "The demonstrated hostile intent and actions of pro-regime forces toward Coalition and partner forces in Syria conducting legitimate counter-ISIS operations will not be tolerated".

USA forces tangled earlier this month with Syria-allied aircraft in the region.

Russia's Foreign Ministry accused Washington of failing to use the hotline before downing the plane near Raqqa, and called for a "careful investigation by the United States command" into the incident.

Popular Video This young teenage singer was shocked when Keith Urban invited her on stage at his concert.

In a move that will fan tensions between Washington and Moscow, Russia made clear it was changing its military posture in response to the USA downing of the jet.

The announcement described the incident as a "flagrant attack" and "an attempt to undermine the efforts of the army as the only effective force capable with its allies.in fighting terrorism across its territory". The shootdown was near the Syrian town of Tabqa. On June 8, US officials have reported that a drone likely connected to Iranian-supported Hezbollah forces fired on USA -backed troops.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov told Russian news agencies on Monday that the downing was akin to "helping the terrorists that the U.S.is fighting against".

"What is this if not an act of aggression?"

The immediate effect on the US -led campaign against IS is unclear.

Viktor Ozerov, chairman of the defense and security committee at the upper chamber of Russian parliament, described his Defense Ministry's statement as a warning.

What is the reaction of the United States to Russia's threat?

"Any aircraft, including planes and drones belonging to the global coalition operating west of the Euphrates River", said the Russian defense ministry, "will be tracked by Russian anti-aircraft forces in the sky and on the ground and treated as targets".

Dunford noted that the hotline, which has been vital in protecting both U.S. and Russian forces operating in Syria, remained in use "over the last few hours".

"At that time the aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces were also performing combat missions in the air space of Syria". The cause then was the US missile strikes on Syria in response to Assad's deadly chemical attack in the country's Idlib province.

It said Washington had failed to use the hotline - a vital incident-prevention tool - before downing the plane near Raqa. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that they will now treat US planes as targets.

"The Russians do not want this conflict to escalate further where United States and Russian forces come to blow", said Heras.

Syria has been testing the US with a series of provocative moves, escalating an already tense relationship between the USA and Russian Federation, despite the shared goal of defeating ISIS. US -backed Syrian Democratic Forces are taking the lead in the offensive, but so are Russian-backed Syrian army forces and pro-Assad militias.
