Russian hackers infiltrated voter databases in dozens of states

Russian hackers got into U.S. election systems in 39 states last year Bloomberg reports.| AP file

Though the hackers failed to alter any of the IL voter information, officials reportedly told Bloomberg that they are anxious that actions in the state were simply a trial run so that the Russians can prepare for a larger attack in the future. A new report says that Russian hackers breached voting systems in 39 states well before the election.

Details of the wave of attacks, in the summer and fall of 2016, were provided by three people with direct knowledge of the US investigation into the matter.

The hacking, which took place over the summer and autumn past year, involved incursions into voter databases and software systems with attempts made to either delete or alter voter information.

The scope and depth of the hacking was so severe officials in the then Barack Obama administration took the step of complaining directly to Moscow.

It is reported that the new parts, backed by a secret document of the national security Agency that was recently revealed on the website the Intercept show the extent of hacking, which is now carefully studying Federal investigators to determine whether the involved representatives of the campaign trump. There's no evidence the Russian government changed Americans' votes, but it's believed they could have affected voting by deleting people's registration details, causing delays on polling day. "They will be back". President Obama reportedly directly called Russia's president, Vladimir Putin, to warn him not to interfere in the election.

Experts said the Russians may not have gained enough access to make a real difference.

Everton agree €34m deal for Sunderland's Jordan Pickford
Pickford enjoyed an outstanding breakthrough campaign with the Black Cats but was unable to help then beat relegation. The news about Everton's eye-watering £30m deal for Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford is not great for Joe Hart.

"Look at the results", one Obama administration official told NBC in December.

The report said that one theory as to why the cyberattack was not successful in actually influencing vote tallies or tampering with registration rolls was that even "several months of hacking failed to give the attackers the access they needed to master America's disparate voting systems spread across more than 7,000 local jurisdictions". That effort went far beyond the carefully timed release of private communications by individuals and parties.

The DHS told USA swing states to protect their voting systems from attacks past year, but officials in states like Georgia brushed aside the advice.

The sophistication of the attack alarmed the Obama administration to such a degree that in an unprecedented move, the White House reportedly used the infamous "red phone" - a direct digital communication link between the United States and Russian Federation - to air their grievances directly to Moscow.

The White House relayed evidence surrounding the hack.

Russian Federation has repeatedly denied interfering in the election, contrary to the findings of the US intelligence community.
