Ruthless Pakistan overwhelm England to enter Champions Trophy final

This victory completes a radical comeback from the drubbing Pakistan received from India in the opening match of the tournament, winning every match since, beating top sides and being the first team to make it to the final.

England made it through to the semi-finals with relative ease, but it was a different story against Pakistan in Cardiff as they crashed to an eight-wicket defeat.

By the 32nd over, when Hasan Ali returned for his second spell, the ball was reversing and Eoin Morgan nicked off to leave England 141 for four.

He added: "The fact we've produced brilliant performances in this tournament and then play like that on this wicket is extremely disappointing".

"All we can do now is keep looking towards that World Cup and use this as a really good platform".

"(But) certainly, that hasn't gone to our heads at all".

"One thing we didn't do today was adapt to conditions", Morgan told Sky Sports 2.

"I bowled the same way I did against South Africa".

Pakistan bowled and fielded tightly to restrict the hosts to a paltry total of 211 all out and the lowest-ranked team in the tournament knocked off the runs in style with a massive 12.5 overs to spare.

The pitch played more like a sub-continental surface than a British one and England captain Eoin Morgan said afterwards: "Coming from Edgbaston, it was obviously a big jump in pace and bounce and too much of an ask for us to adjust to really". "I think this (his emergence) is something marvelous for Pakistan cricket".

"Full credit to them, they outplayed us on this wicket".

Unable to hit out with the bat at the risk of England not using all their overs - despite constant temptation from Pakistan's well-drilled attack - Stokes did worse with the ball, going for 0-38 in his 3.1 overs.

"I think the pitch was very good for both teams", he said.

England's dismal performance in their eight-wicket defeat in the semi-final, only means that their search for a first global 50-over crown rolls on to the 2019 World Cup on home soil, reports The Guardian.

"Last time we played here although we were 4-0 down [in a five-match series], still the Pakistani supporters came to support us and it was like we were playing at home", recalled Ali. "It's a big challenge jumping from venue to venue but we're going to have to do that with the World Cup so it's important for us to go through games like today for our experience".

After a meek and meagre display in their opening match of the tournament against India, Pakistan were labelled "shambolic" and "terrible" by coach Mickey Arthur but have shone ever since.

"I felt like we were trying to take a positive option against them", said Morgan. "Yes, I will have that India Under-19 game in mind", he said.
