Sanchez becomes Chile's all-time leading scorer

Later on in Kazan, Alexis Sanchez struck early to become Chile's all-time record goalscorer before Jonas Hector laid on an equaliser for Lars Stindl - both of those goals feature in our social round-up.

Germany and Chile from Group B of Confederations Cup 2017 will face off later today in the Kazan Arena in Kazan.

Sanchez has yet to sign a new deal with the Gunners and pointedly ignored a question about his future as he accepted the Man of the Match award.

"I saw a very intense match, marked by very strategical play", Joachim Loew said after missing out on his 100th victory as Germany coach.

What they are saying: "When you come up against the world champions you need to be very strong mentally and you need to be in form".

"It was a game of a really high level".

"They all did well, with so little experience, so few worldwide matches".

The teams exchanged chances in the second half, with Chile coming closest on Alexis's long-range free kick, which narrowly missed the crossbar.

"I don't pay too much attention to these numbers", Chile coach Juan Antonio Pizzi said.

Germany, now unbeaten in 12 games since their Euro 2016 semi-final exit, gifted Chile a sixth-minute lead when Shkodran Mustafi attempted to play the ball out of defence.

Arturo Vidal deflected the German's pass to Sanchez, who played a one-two with his teammate before carrying the ball into the box and beating Marc-Andre ter Stegen at his near post.

Despite the early scare, Germany regained their composure and pushed forward. Goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, however, will be sidelined again because of a left calf injury.

Cameroon forward Vincent Aboubakar spurned three clear chances in the second half as his team showed more verve and technical skill.

Suffering from an ankle sprain, Sanchez did not start the first game of the pre-World Cup tournament, playing only a few minutes in his team's win over Cameroon.

André-Frank Zambo Anguiss put the African champions ahead in first-half stoppage team with a deft lob over Australian goalkeeper Matthew Ryan. "Sometimes we are better than our rivals and win, sometimes we lose".

We have all been waiting for this match.

"Chile are a battle-hardened team and there will be a point where we need to be able to provide our answer to that", he said.

"I'm disappointed with the goal, these little lapses cost us, it was a sucker punch and we didn't give up". "For many it was the first game in such a tournament so I am satisfied", he added.

The opening goal was worth the wait.

Alex Gersbach is fouled by Cameroon's Ernest Mabouka resulting in a penalty and Australia's only goal.
