Sean Spicer: Trump's 'Tapes' Tweet Made Comey 'Tell The Truth'

Over the past few weeks, the White House has gone from accusing former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey of lying during his sworn testimony before the Senate to saying that - thanks to President Trump's efforts to manipulate him with a misleading tweet about "tapes" - Comey actually told the truth. My story was always a straight story, my story was always the truth, but you'll have to determine for yourself whether or not his story changed.

The poll also said 46 percent of Americans disapproved of Trump's decision to fire Comey - up from 38 percent in May - while just 27 percent approved of Comey's ouster.

It all started when Trump tweeted: "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!".

Advisers who speak to Trump regularly have said he had not mentioned the existence of tapes during their conversations. During that testimony he confirmed that the President was not under investigation when he was at the head of the FBI, but said that he felt pressure from the President to drop an investigation into Russian connexions with a Trump campaign official.

"There has been no obstruction, there has been no collusion", Trump told Fox News host Ainsley Earhardt.

The president did not, however, say what may have changed, only saying that investigative reporting may uncover more.

Mr Trump had earlier questioned Robert Mueller's integrity in an interview with Fox News. He was - he did admit that what I said was right.

"Well", said Trump, knowing an opportunity when he sees one, "it wasn't very stupid, I can tell you that".

Eventually, after working up the courage, the girl let go of the ride and miraculously landed in the arms of the people below. She was taken to hospital in a stable condition and had no serious injuries, but did hit tree branches on the fall down.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said on Fox News that by bringing up the idea of tapes, Comey came to think, "I better be honest".

President Donald Trump on Friday used an interview to defend his actions in relation to the Russian Federation investigation as he signed a veterans bill into law.

Trump had denied asking Comey for a loyalty pledge or to go easy on Flynn.

And in an interview with CNN on Friday, Kellyanne Conway refused to say why it took Trump 42 days to admit that he knew he didn't record Comey, but also left open the possibility that recordings may exist.

At an off-camera briefing for White House reporters, spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders attempted to put the issue to bed.

As reported by the NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll released on Friday, 45 percent of respondents were more likely to believe Comey's testimony on his firing on 9 May, while only 22 percent said they would believe Trump´s side of the story, . You know, it's going to be interesting. Under a post-Watergate law, the Presidential Records Act, recordings made by presidents belong to the people and can eventually be made public.

They will be joined by Republican Lindsey Graham and Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse, the chairman and ranking member of the Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism, they added.
