Several injured after van hits pedestrians in north London

"That this heinous attack had taken place during the holy month of Ramadan is even more disturbing".

Locals then pounced on the driver and pinned him down while waiting for the police to arrive.

- Witnesses describe seeing two additional men fleeing from the van.

"Due to the nature of this incident, extra policing resources have been deployed in order to reassure communities, especially those observing Ramadan", the police statement said.

The van driver, described by eyewitnesses as a large white man, was detained by members of the public after the attack in Seven Sisters Road at 12.20am on Monday.

Two other people were treated at the scene for light injuries.

"The man tried to escape".

The council called on the authorities to increase security around mosques.

The group's general secretary, Harun Khan, said that eyewitnesses saw the van driver hit a number of Muslims.

"We have been informed that a van has run over worshipers as they left #FinsburyPark Mosque", the Muslim Council of Britain tweeted early Monday. We got told to move straight away.

"Some big van. crushing the people in the mosque". "There was three people in the van".

In 2014, Finsbury Park Mosque became one of only three faith organizations - and the first Muslim organization - to achieve the VISIBLE standard. Around 10% of the borough's population is Muslim.

Transportation officials said roads in the area were being closed.

GST to rollout on July 1, two-slabs for lottery, hotel rooms
In relief for AC hotels, the Council chose to raise the threshold for the 28 per cent tax to RS 7,500 from Rs 5,000 at present. The GST is scheduled to be rolled out from July 1 and tax rates have already been fixed for nearly all goods and services.

"While this appears to be an attack on a particular community, like the bad attacks in Manchester, Westminster and London Bridge, it is also an assault on all our shared values of tolerance, freedom and respect", Khan said.

Prime Minister Theresa May described the attack as a "terrible incident", adding: "All my thoughts are with those who have been injured, their loved ones and the emergency services on the scene".

The incident comes at a time when emotions are high in the United Kingdom, in the wake of a series of deadly terrorist attacks. In Manchester 22 people died at a pop concert after a suicide bomber blew himself up.

The incident comes just over two weeks after three Islamist militants drove into pedestrians on London Bridge and stabbed people at nearby restaurants and bars, killing eight.

"I'm totally shocked at the incident at Finsbury Park tonight. And that reputation may be more historical than current", he said.

- The Archbishop of Canterbury, Justin Welby, said "the appalling attack on Muslims in Finsbury Park is an attack on us all and on the culture and values of our country". The mosque was shut down and reorganized in 2005 and has not been linked to extremist views.

Many at the scene expressed anger that the incident was not reported as a suspected terror attack sooner.

People could be heard shouting and screaming amid the chaos and bloodstains were visible on the pavement.

One witness, who went by the name Abdul, told The Independent: "People gather on that part of the street during Ramadan to chat and socialize so it was premeditated". They are very bad. At a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Luxembourg he said: "The most important thing for us is to look to the horizon, raise our eyes to the horizon". "We stopped the guy and we put him on the floor and people managed to call police", Hashi said, showing CNN his bruises. He was trying to run away but people overpowered him.

Police say a suspect was arrested immediately after the attack, which is being treated as a terrorist incident.

Police earlier said a vehicle had struck several pedestrians early Monday morning and one person had been arrested. Nimane said some of the people looked dead. I said, 'We are not going to kill you.

This is a developing story.
