Sheriff: Fired worker had plan to kill former co-workers

The shooting took place at Fiamma Inc., a business located on North Forsyth Road.

Local authorities have ruled out any terrorist links, and believe the gunman acted alone.

Authorities say John Robert Neumann Jr. shot and killed himself Monday after fatally shooting five ex-co-workers at the Fiamma plant outside Orlando.

Several roads in Orlando were closed as deputies responded to the shooting.

"We are all on heightened alert from the tragic incidents across the globe".

- Alex Villarreal (@AlexvWESH) June 5, 20175 dead in #Orlando shooting. She commended the sheriff's office for its quick action. No indication of terrorism connection.

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings was expected to announce details "as soon as info is accurate", his office announced.

The victims are Robert Snyder, 69, Kevin Lawson, 46, Brenda Montanez-Crespo, 44, Kevin Clark, 53, and Jeffrey Roberts, 57. "In these dark hours we ask for thoughts and prayers for all the victims of this tragedy and their families".

Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said Neumann was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1999 and did not have a concealed weapons permit.

As investigators try to determine what led to the fatal shooting, here is what WKMG News 6 has learned about the gunman from people who knew him and law enforcement officials.

Revenge against an employer, romantic partner or co-workers often is the motive, experts say. They are now being interviewed by sheriff's detectives.

In June 2014, Orange County deputies investigated a report that he battered another employee at Fiamma, but no charges were brought, Demings said.

Demings said it's important to fund law enforcement not only to keep up with the growing demands, but to make sure the growth continues.

Police said that the suspect had a minor criminal history, including driving under the influence of alcohol, marijuana possession and misdemeanour battery.

Shelley Adams told Channel 9 that she got a call from her sister, Sheila McIntyre, who was in the building during the shooting. The victim of that incident was not among the dead Monday, Demings said. "Unfortunately, we've seen this scenario play itself out in our community and in other communities across the nation, and it is incumbent upon all of us not to become complacent or become callous to these horrific situations, but for each of our citizens to be vigilant", she says.

Authorities said officers of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have joined in the probe. There were seven employees on site who were not injured. The survivor reportedly called her sister and told her, "My boss is dead".

"I saw the post on Facebook, and my heart sank", Blevins said Monday morning.

Several employees had raised concerns that the shooter, John Neumann Jr., might cause problems after he was sacked in April from Fiamma, a manufacturer of RV awnings.

Mugshot of John Robert Neumann Jr.on February 9, 2010 released by the Seminole County Sheriff's Office. John Robert Neumann Jr., 45, methodically shot majority in the head before killing himself as well at the sound of an approaching siren on Monday, they said.
