Surface Pro and Surface Laptops are not easy to fix

We recently saw what was inside the new Microsoft Surface Laptop and now it is the turn of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

However these devices are not considered easy to be repaired according to our friends at iFixit which gives rating by dismantling the devices to discover how tough or easy it is to fix the devices.

When the Surface Laptop was launched, Microsoft put emphasis on the details of the design and how the use of metal, cloth, and glass all worked well together to try and deliver a one of a kind experience.

iFixit is known for its taking apart of new devices and providing a score to indicate to what extent the device in question is repairable. Since the laptop is not meant to be opened or fixed, it required from iFixit people to cut the Signature Alcantara material-covered keyboard to access the internals of the laptop.

And also as with Apple's notebooks, the main components - processor, memory, storage - are all soldered to the motherboard.

While numerous internal components are standard parts the teardown team has seen before, once the device is opened there's no way for all the king's horsemen and all the kings men to put Humpty together again. It also makes the Surface Notebook incredibly hard to fix as you can see in the video we've embedded below. And while Microsoft has previously marketed it as "the tablet that can replace your laptop", the Surface Pro now carries the tagline of "the most versatile laptop in the world".
