Theresa May pressured to resign after British election disaster

If no party wins a majority by itself, it can try and form a government in one of two ways.

It is a less formal arrangement than the full, two-party coalition that the Conservatives under David Cameron forged with the Liberal Democrats in 2010, and the DUP suggested that the deal was not yet finalised. The U.K. Independence Party, which won 12.6 percent in the last election, saw its vote share collapse: It earned just 2 percent of the vote and lost its only seat in Westminster. One regional election is still not final.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn will also likely table a confidence motion in Parliament.

Peter Robinson, a former DUP leader and former Northern Ireland first minister, said the party would "play a very responsible role" at Westminster. "It's good as far as it's gone, but it's not going to be good enough". "And make way for a government that will be truly representative of all of the people of this country". It will take time - and probably another election - for matters to be resolved. The exit polls projected no seats for UKIP, the nationalist party that led the successful campaign for Britain to leave the European Union. The polling was higher in the Thursday election than in the general election of 2015, and Labour's startling run was fuelled by young voters. "Chaos seems to be complete now", added Sophia in 't Veld, a Dutch MEP who is involved in the negotiations for the European Parliament.

"We are ready. We have completed the guidelines, the framework", Merkel said Friday in Mexico City. No party secured a majority and May was left scrambling to form a coalition government.

"We need to get started on the negotiations as soon as possible because time is ticking", German Deputy Foreign Minister Michael Roth told Germany's ZDF, according to Reuters. But we live in a time of significant, unexpected changes.

But what message has the British electorate tried to send about Brexit, and will the European Union even push for a delay in talks until the situation is clearer?

Prime Minister Theresa May took over after David Cameron sung himself off with the ill-advised Brexit vote, setting the United Kingdom on a course to separate from the EU.

Many in the party believe she has been fatally wounded.

A major campaign issue centered on Britain's plan to leave the European Union, also called Brexit. Meanwhile, the Scottish National Party lost 21 seats.

Katie Perrior, who quit as May's communications chief in April, said Timothy and Hill were "great street fighters but poor political leaders" and exercised too much power over the prime minister.

"I look forward to meeting with him again tomorrow if his appointment is reaffirmed, but yes I think it's an important issue that you raise - the objectivity of both governments, and both governments working strictly in accordance with our legal responsibilities under the Belfast Agreement, the Irish government as co-guarantor, indeed the British Government as co-guarantor". "We have to wait and see how things shake out". "Theresa May has put Brexit in jeopardy".
