Thomas shoots 63, trails Harman by 1

"Thomas bogeyed 10 but got the shot back at 12 from 9'3".

Round 4 of the 2017 U.S. Open golf tournament begins at 9:51 a.m. ET Sunday at Erin Hills golf course in Hartford, Wis.

Fleetwood, who tied for 27th in his only previous U.S. Open in 2015, has moved the ball smoothly through the long, links-style layout, illustrated by his average of just 1.54 putts per hole, tied for fifth-best in the tournament. Certainly, not anyone who will be at Erin Hills for what promises to be an exciting Father's Day Sunday. Brian Harman sits in first at -12 but course conditions have shown that nearly anyone in the top 10 could win the U.S. Open with a strong Round 4.

With the US Open weather looking like it could have winds of up to 16 miles per hour and with gusts of around 25mph - scoring should be a little trickier in the final round.

Another 63 is perhaps unlikely, because the breeze is finally predicted to pick up on Sunday, perhaps offering a stern test, though the course will probably remain fairly soft.

Thomas' dramatics happened on the 18th when he hit his second-shot 3-wood more than 300 yards on the par-5, 667-yard finishing hole.

"Obviously, the finish was awesome", he said right after he finished his round, when he held a temporary two-shot lead. "I'd love to have another one of those", Thomas said. However, no feather in his cap will be quite as flashy as this one. No one ever has had a lower score in any major.

Thomas, decked out in fluorescent pink pants, produced a no less electric performance signing for nine-under 63 to equal the lowest numerical score in a major and the best ever in the 117 year-history of the US Open in relation to par. "But it's such a cool course standing on the tee", he said of Erin Hills. But Thomas was not about to apologize. So I've got to work on that driver a little bit more and see if I can't hit it a little bit more consistently with some length. "Whether it's 20 under or 20 over, they want a good tournament and an action-packed leaderboard". His whole life has been marked by high aspirations and low scores.

"Yeah, it's a U.S. Open, so everything's pretty challenging", Leishman admitted.

"I'm looking forward to my shot at it, I know it's not going to be an easy day, for sure", Fowler said. "This is what he does".

He was at 8 under at the end of the day, and never got back to double digits. "I've pictured winning the U.S. Open a lot of times before". He made an eagle on his final hole at the Sony Open in January to shoot 59, and he went on to break the PGA Tour's 72-hole scoring record.

"I felt my game was in a good place last season", Thomas said.

Harman fired a 5-under 67 for a 12-under total that puts him one stroke ahead of Thomas, Brooks Koepka (KEHP'-kuh) and Tommy Fleetwood.

Birdie - Brian Harman: While Justin Thomas was making history, Harman was quietly putting himself in position to make some of his own. "First cut made, too, so we're breaking down all kinds of barriers", said the 30-year-old from Georgia.
