Three Palestinians killed after seriously wounding Israeli officer in attacks in Jerusalem

The situation remained tense in Israel-occupied West Bank on Saturday, one day after three Palestinians and an Israeli policewoman were killed in attacks in East Jerusalem.

Police said Staff Sgt. Maj.

According to Israeli police, the Israeli government has revoked permits allowing Palestinians to visit Israel on occasion of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.

Tel Aviv: Palestinian factions and the Israeli military have both rejected a claim by Islamic State that three Palestinian men who carried out a fatal shooting and stabbing attack in Jerusalem were members of the militant group.

Israeli police said on Friday all the assailants were from Palestinian cities in the occupied West Bank.

Of those, at least 170 were carrying out attacks, Israel says.

According to PCHR's investigations, after the abovementioned attack, the Israeli forces completely closed Bab al-Amoud (Damascus Gate) area, Sultan Suleiman Street and all gates of Jerusalem, excluding Bab al-Asbat (Lions Gate).

The move came after three assailants, armed with knives and a homemade automatic weapon, carried out simultaneous attacks at two locations near Damascus Gate on Friday evening.

"Instead of condemning the attack, Fatah. issued a statement in which it condemn (s) the officers who killed the terrorists, and praised the murderers as heroes", Netanyahu said.

While the Islamic State took credit for the attack, the group's statement misidentified the three, though it is possible the group used IS aliases when identifying the attacker as their own.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) strongly condemned these measures and stressed they fall within the collective punishment policy which is prohibited in the global human rights law.

Since then, Palestinian assailants have killed 43 Israelis, two visiting Americans and a British student, mainly in stabbing, shooting and vehicle ramming attacks.

More than 300 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces since the beginning of October 2015. The PLFP is a Marxist-Leninist group that broke away from the Arab Nationalist movement in the late 1960s and was credited with carrying out worldwide attacks, including plane hijackings, and in more recent times, rocket attacks on Israel. In that period, some 250 Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire.

The attack took place on Friday as Muslims marked the end of the third Friday of the fasting month of Ramzan, during which tens of thousands of Palestinians from east Jerusalem and the West Bank attended prayers at the nearby Al-Aqsa mosque compound, Islam's third-holiest site. Following the attack, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and senior members of his cabinet, as well as top security officials met in a conference call and decided that Israeli authorities would be instructed to rescind all weekday holiday permits from Palestinians to enter Israel.
