Trump administration rips leaks surrounding Mueller probe

The committee's Russian Federation investigation has, in recent months, turned increasingly to allegations of coordination between members of Trump's presidential campaign and Moscow, as well as the president's abrupt decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, who was previously in charge of the bureau's own Russian Federation probe.

After meeting with Mueller, Burr and Warner said that their committee would step back from probing President Trump for possible obstruction of justice and would instead focus their investigation on Russia's efforts to disrupt and influence the election. Sessions called the matter an "appalling" set of lies, but he also refused to reveal contents of conversations he had with Trump that could have shed light on whether Trump meant to obstruct justice when he fired former FBI Director James Comey.

Trump took to his Twitter account Thursday morning to denounce the report.

Talk about high crimes and misdemeanors.

A spokesman for the office of the special counsel declined comment.

Law enforcement sources tell CNN that the special counsel is gathering information and considering whether there is evidence to launch a full-scale obstruction investigation.

According to the Washington Post, since Mr Comey's firing on 9 May, Mr Mueller, the special prosecutor, has started to look at Mr Trump's actions as part of the wider investigation into alleged Russian Federation interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

Americans are mixed on whether Mueller can lead a fair and impartial investigation.

Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Trump's personal lawyer, responded Wednesday evening to the Post report by saying: "The FBI leak of information regarding the president is outrageous, inexcusable and illegal".

President Trump and others in the White House have railed against leaks within the administration.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who appointed Mueller last month, testified Tuesday he has seen no evidence of good cause to fire Mueller. Last week, former FBI Director James Comey told Congress he believes he was sacked by Mr Trump to undermine the agency's Russian Federation probe.

The former speaker said Trump called him Monday night and that the two discussed Gingrich's concerns. Grassley's office said the letter is in response to a recent letter from Feinstein requesting that the committee seek details from senior Federal Bureau of Investigation leadership about Comey's interactions with President Donald Trump before he was sacked. "It is my view that fully investigating the facts, circumstances, and rationale for Mr. Comey's removal will provide us the opportunity to do that on a cooperative, bipartisan basis", according to the letter. The President has stressed he was not under investigation, and has taken to Twitter to dismiss the entire investigation as a hoax.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein, the top Democrat on the Senate judiciary committee, wrote a letter to Chairman Chuck Grassley calling for the judiciary committee to establish its own investigation into obstruction of justice.
