Trump admits he is under investigation over Comey

On Wednesday, anonymous sources told the Washington Post that special counsel Robert Mueller told Senate investigators in a confidential hearing that he was looking into Trump's firing of former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

Trump did not specify who he was referring to, but he appeared to mean Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, the No. 2 official at the U.S. Justice Department.

President Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner, who despite his lack of qualifications has become one of the most powerful people in his presidency, is reported to be under investigation by the special counsel entrusted with probing the Trump-Russia scandal.

On May 9, Trump summoned Rosenstein and Attorney General Jeff Sessions to the White House to discuss Comey, a meeting that ended with the president instructing the Justice Department leaders to put their criticism of Comey in writing. Trump advisers describe the president as increasingly angry over the investigation, yelling at television sets carrying coverage and insisting he is the target of a conspiracy. Rosenstein, the official who would be responsible for dismissing Mueller, told USA lawmakers he would fire him only with good cause.

In a combative and testy exchange on "Fox News Sunday", Sekulow acknowledged he could not know for sure that Mueller has not opened an investigation, but he said he had no reason to believe he had.

The Trump tweets come after the top lawyer for his transition team warned organization officials to preserve all records and other materials related to the Russian Federation probe.

Trump said in an interview with NBC News that he would have fired Comey even without Rosenstein's memo.

Hours later, a source close to Trump's outside legal team said Trump did not intend his tweet to be confirmation of the investigation but rather was reacting to a Washington Post story on Wednesday about the probe. "Witch Hunt", the president wrote.

CNN has learned members of the Trump transition team received a memo, urging all volunteers and aides to "preserve" any records relating to Russia, Ukraine or investigations into top Trump campaign officials in the inquiry.

He appeared to suggest as much during testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee earlier this week.

Pence has seldom addressed the Russian Federation issue, which has overshadowed Trump's efforts to overhaul the healthcare system, cut taxes and boost jobs - priorities that Pence has worked on intensively with Republican lawmakers. "You are witnessing the single greatest WITCH HUNT in American political history - led by some very bad and conflicted people!" Citing a memo from the general counsel's office of Trump's transition team, the Times said members were given the order on Thursday for any information involving Russian Federation or Ukraine in the latest sign of the investigation's expanding reach. Trump's tweet, however, used only 111 characters and Trump has not been shy about using multiple tweets to convey a singular message.
