Trump Attorney: The President Is Not Under Investigation

WASHINGTON-A personal lawyer for President Donald Trump maintained Sunday that the president wasn't under investigation, following recent news reports that Mr. Trump was being probed over whether he tried to obstruct justice.

President Donald Trump is beginning his day with a stream of tweets defending his record and lashing out at the investigation into Russian interference in the election. Trump fired FBI Director James B. Comey, sent out spokespeople and surrogates with a far-fetched cover story to explain the dismissal, and then told NBC's Lester Holt that the real reason for the firing was Comey's pursuit of the Russian Federation investigation.

Donald Trump isn't under investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller, a member of the president's legal team said, despite Trump's repeated comments that he's the target of a "witch hunt".

But right after making that declaration, the interview took an interesting and confusing twist: Sekulow then said - twice - that the president is being investigated.

"The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post", Sekulow said.

Vice President Pence hired outside legal counsel to help with both congressional committee inquiries and the special counsel investigation into possible collusion between President Trump's campaign and Russian Federation. Mueller is also looking at whether, if any potential offenses were committed, Trump or others attempted to cover them up or obstruct the investigation into them, said one US official on Thursday who is familiar with the rough outlines of the probe and who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Comey told a Senate panel last week he believed Trump fired him to undermine the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Russian Federation probe.

"We are 20 percent into it", King said answering the question on how far the investigation has progressed.

"If we want to put all this behind us, let's find out what happened, put it out there, and let's not undermine the credibility of the investigation, and so my view on it is that is the best thing that could happen for the president and for the country", he told CNN.

He told reporters upon his return that the western Maryland mountain retreat is "incredible" and "beautiful", later tweeting that it is "a very special place".

Dianne Feinstein, top Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee, said she was "increasingly concerned" that Trump will fire both Mueller and Rosenstein. They also pointed out that the " White House has used a memo he wrote to justify Trump's decision to fire FBI Director James Comey, but that Trump action may now be part of the probe.

Finally, we know that Mueller's investigators are also looking for "any evidence of possible financial crimes among Trump associates", as The Post phrased it.

Sekulow said his legal team had not received notice of any probe into Trump. As a result, the Federal Bureau of Investigation is unlikely to regain public and congressional trust until it has a Director who understands the gravity of the mistakes and pledges never to repeat them.

The president has directed some of his frustration at Rosenstein and Mueller.

"That signifies this president knew all too well that it was inappropriate", Schiff said.

By the Fox News Sunday leg of the morning, the wheels were coming off the wagon for Sekulow and the *non-investigation* investigation into Trump.
