Trump confirms he called the Republicans' healthcare bill 'mean'

Fox and Friends host Pete Hegseth asked Trump how he responds to a Facebook post from Barack Obama in which the former president said that, "small tweaks over the course of the next couple weeks, under the guise of making these bills easier to stomach, can not change the fundamental meanness at the core of this legislation".

"Republicans have 52 votes in the Senate, we don't have 60, and to do major legislation requires 60 votes", Sasse said. They include at least two senators who have expressed serious concerns over the health bill, Ted Cruz of Texas and Mike Lee of Utah.

U.S. President Donald Trump says he and his Republican colleagues in the Senate are facing "a very narrow path" in their seven-year effort to overhaul the national healthcare reforms championed by former President Barack Obama.

In the broadcast interview, Trump did not indicate what types of changes to the Senate bill may be in store, but affirmed that he had described a House-passed bill as "mean". "Not one. And if it were the greatest bill ever proposed in mankind, we wouldn't get a vote." he said.

Five Republican senators have announced they will not support the bill, which is created to repeal and replace Obamacare, in its current form.

Johnson's Democratic counterpart representing Wisconsin, Sen.

"We don't see them as cuts, it's slowing the rate of growth in the future and getting Medicaid back to where it was", she said. Johnson spoke on NBC's "Meet the Press". So I've been encouraging leadership, the White House, anybody I can talk to for quite some time, let's not rush this process. American employers, which provide health coverage to more than 150 million workers and their families, could see their costs rise as hospitals and physicians try to make up for losses they incur caring for more uninsured patients....It also will probably hit employees, who will see insurance premiums increase and wages stagnate as businesses shift healthcare costs onto workers, as has happened repeatedly in the past. "It's hard for me to see the bill passing this week", she added.

As negotiations within the deeply divided group of Republican senators enter their decisive final stages, Trump professed to be tentatively confident that agreement would be reached.

An analysis from the Congressional Budget Office is due as soon as Monday and vote by the full Senate is planned for Thursday.

Collins spoke on ABC's "This Week".

"We have a very good plan", Trump said in an interview broadcast in the United States on Sunday.

Trump says he believes his majority party is "going to get there".

Hegseth tried - twice - to get Trump to slam former President Obama's response to the Senate draft bill.

U.S. President Donald Trump is making a final push to fulfil a key campaign promise, insisting that Republicans are not "that far off" and signalling that last-minute changes are coming to win votes.
