Trump 'Considering' Firing Special Counsel In Russia Investigation, Friend Says

The CEO is Newsmax Media called Mueller "illegitimate" as a special counsel because the investigation itself has no basis.

Most important, booting Mueller, after Trump just fired Comey, would look even more like a coverup, even though Trump seems to have nothing to hide.

"The President did talk with him in the days before he was named special counsel", Ruddy told PBS on Monday in the same interview where he said Trump was "considering terminating" Mueller as special counsel.

The attorney general, Jeff Sessions, recused himself from all matters having to do with the Trump-Russia investigation because of his own conversations with Russian officials during the Trump transition.

Trump's allies have begun raising questions about the former FBI director's impartiality, suggesting he can not be trusted to lead the investigation.

House Speaker Paul Ryan spoke out Tuesday against Trump firing Mueller.

But expressions of discontent with Mueller are bubbling up nonetheless.

"Let's just have transparency", Gingrich said, "Could we have as many pro-Trump lawyers as we have anti-Trump lawyers?"

But people close to Mr. Trump say he is so volatile they can not be sure that he will not change his mind about Mr. Mueller if he finds out anything to lead him to believe the investigation has been compromised.

Peter Carr, a spokesman for Mueller, declined to comment on Ruddy's remarks.

Mueller, who was appointed by the Justice Department in May to replace ousted FBI Director James Comey, has built a team of formidable legal minds who've worked on everything from Watergate to Enron.

Anxiety about the probe - and fresh concerns about the political leanings of some of the attorneys involved - is percolating in the West Wing of the White House.

Ruddy was at the White House on Monday, but he did not meet with the president, White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said.

"Look, the President of the United States, as we all know, is a unitary executive", Sekulow said. The person demanded anonymity to discuss strategy on the sensitive matter.

"I personally think it would be a very significant mistake", Ruddy added. Trump could order Rosenstein to fire Mueller. The interview was first reported by PBS. There's no reason to fire Mueller.

Sessions lent his support to the special counsel, Robert Mueller, who is now in charge of the Trump campaign-Russia investigation. When asked about the interview by CNN, Ruddy said: "My quote is accurate".

Federal regulations say a special counsel can be stopped for "any investigative or prosecutorial step" that is "so inappropriate or unwarranted under established Departmental practices that it should not be pursued". Ruddy agrees that the move would be a wrong move, but dismissed the investigation Mueller is overseeing.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein says he has seen no evidence of good cause to fire the special prosecutor overseeing the Russian Federation investigation.

As expectations mounted about the upcoming open hearing of attorney general Jeff Sessions on Capitol Hill, a friend of the president added a new twist to the Russian Federation controversy by suggesting Donald Trump might be considering dismissing the special counsel investigating it. Trump, who expressed displeasure with Session's withdrawal from the case, wouldn't hesitate to apply pressure.

Mueller's hiring was meant to ensure the probe would be conducted without interference.

If Mueller is fired by Trump, Schiff said, Congress will simply re-establish the independent counsel law and put Mueller in the position.
