Trump lawyer denies president is a probe target

Hours later, a source close to Trump's outside legal team said Trump did not intend his tweet to be confirmation of the investigation but rather was reacting to a Washington Post story on Wednesday about the probe.

"The President is not under investigation by the special counsel", Jay Sekulow said in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press".

US President Donald Trump is not under any investigation for obstruction of justice in a probe into his possible collusion with Russian Federation, his attorney says.

Number one, the letter to the president of the United States from the attorney general of the United States is, 'Therefore, I must recommend you remove Director James Comey and identify an experienced and qualified individual to lead the great men and women of the FBI.' That's pretty unqualified.

Trump himself has repeatedly denounced the investigation as a "witch hunt", though it is his own actions which more accurately fit the term.

Your afternoon shot of politics, sent straight from the desk of Joshua Miller.

Trump advisers and confidants describe the president as increasingly angry over the investigation, yelling at TV sets in the White House carrying coverage and insisting he is the target of a conspiracy to discredit - and potentially end - his presidency. "Because the special counsel, under the special counsel regulations, reports still to the Department of Justice, not an independent counsel", Sekulow said.

"He's in for a rude awakening" if he thinks he can shut down the investigation that way, said Feinstein. By needlessly firing Comey and tweeting recklessly about it, Trump single-handedly turned his Russian Federation problem - a "cloud" over his administration, he reportedly told Comey - into a much bigger problem.

"You begin to wonder if there is going to be a domino effect here where it is just one person after another", said Andrew Graham, a longtime Maryland defense lawyer who worked with Rosenstein. But is he right that Trump would be removed from office if he fires Mueller?

Washington D.C. [USA], June 17 (ANI): Some critics of U.S. President Donald Trump have expressed fear that Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein could be fired after the former's tirade apparently against the latter on Twitter, according to the Washington Post.

The president has denied that he has any nefarious ties to Russian Federation and has also disputed that he attempted to block the investigation into his campaign's possible role in Mocsow's election-related hacking.

The US media reported earlier this week that the president also wants to fire Muller but was finding it hard to do so because he has the reputation of being an honest and impartial investigator.

Trump seemed to confirm that story - his White House hadn't denied it but instead condemned the leak from which it sprang - in a Friday morning tweet. Comey later revealed that he orchestrated a disclosure of details about conversations with Trump to prompt the appointment of a special counsel. And Trump's attitude toward the investigation is getting worse and worse.

"I can not read the mind of the special prosecutor", he said.

Intially, the Trump administration pointed to that memo to justify Comey's firing.

A source familiar with the Mueller probe said on Thursday that investigators would have to gather a large amount of evidence before an interview with the president would be warranted.
