Trump lawyer says president not informed he is under investigation

Rep. Ted Lieu (D-Calif.) said Friday that Congress would come together and "begin impeachment proceedings" against President Trump if he fired special counsel Robert Mueller and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein.

An attorney for President Trump disputed reports Sunday that Trump is under formal investigation for obstruction of justice in connection with the firing of FBI Director James Comey, despite claims to the contrary by government officials and the president's own tweets.

Schiff added that he believes there is evidence of obstruction of justice related to the president's firing of Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey.

As for Trump's repeated criticism of the "witch hunt" against him, Sekulow told NBC's Meet The Press: "He's not afraid of the investigation.

There's been no notification from the special counsel's office that the president is under investigation", Sekulow said.

But Sekulow says the legal team has "received no notice of investigation". "The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction". "The President's response was as it related to the Washington Post report". But the president's attorney repeatedly and definitively declared that Trump is not, in fact, under investigation.

He said, however, that Sekulow's comments could mean the White House was taking the position that no investigation exists until Mueller's team officially confirms it, disregarding any media reports based on anonymous sourcing.

Trump left Saturday with his wife and young son to spend the weekend at Camp David for the first time, and is scheduled to return to Washington late Sunday. Nope, says Sekulow. If you believe the Daily Beast, though, Trump has made his feelings clear to other confidants: "He's furious at Rosenstein, but the list of his people who enrage him is ever-growing..." Claims also arose that Trump asked the director of the National Security Agency to declare that he was not under investigation and asked the Director of National Intelligence to tell Comey to back off the Flynn investigation. "Nothing has changed in that regard since James Comey's testimony". The source said investigators have sought information from Richard Ledgett, who recently retired as deputy NSA director and, the source said, had written a memo documenting an attempt from Trump urging Rogers to tamp down on the FBI's Russian Federation investigation.

The Post's report indicated that Robert Mueller, who was already involved in the investigation into whether Russian Federation had a hand in the 2016 election, "is interviewing senior intelligence officials as part of a widening probe that now includes an examination of whether Trump attempted to obstruct justice". "Witch Hunt", Trump said in a tweet. If Trump would seriously consider firing Sessions, it stands to reason that he would dispose of Comey. Schiff said he wants the White House to acknowledge the tapes or make clear there are no tapes and "it was an idle threat".

Fellow panelist Angus King, an independent who caucuses with the Democrats, estimated that investigators are just 20 percent into their probe, which could last for months. King and Rubio are both members of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is running an investigation that partially parallels the Justice Department probe being run by Mueller.
