Trump's attorney says he is not under investigation

In a statement, Jamie Gorelick said she told Kushner to get "independent advice of a lawyer" on whether to "continue with us" after Robert Mueller was tapped to lead an FBI investigation into possible ties between Trump's presidential campaign and Russian Federation. Thereupon, we were treated to heated debates - including an uncharacteristically cringe-inducing one Fox's Chris Wallace conducted with Sekulow - over whether Trump was acknowledging that he is under investigation ... or been told he was under investigation ... or ... something.

This follows President Trump's tweet which seemed to confirm he was under investigation Friday, he tweeted "I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director!" What journalists focused on like a laser on was the first four words of the president's tweet: "I am being investigated".

The anchor continued, "The idea that Mueller wouldn't be looking at the circumstances surrounding the firing of the director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation defies common sense". But it would be the worst form of negligence to our republic for us to say we're going to close the investigation before we can determine whether there is merit to these allegations.

Shortly after Comey was terminated from his position, Trump hinted in a tweet that their conversations may have been recorded and that Comey should therefore avoid leaking to the press.

Over the weekend, Sekulow declared that Trump is not under investigation, after the president condemned the investigation as a "witch hunt" through a series of tweets. Let me clear. The President's not under investigation. But Trump has also said he had made a decision to fire Comey before Rosenstein wrote a memo recommended him.

The irony is that the inquiries into Russian meddling in the election, and the contacts between Trump campaign officials and Russians, were encouraged by many Republicans in Congress at the outset. Mueller's office has taken up that work, and the preliminary interviews scheduled with intelligence officials indicate that his team is actively pursuing potential witnesses inside and outside the government.

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller as special counsel following Comey's ouster in early May.

A personal attorney for Donald Trump is insisting that the President is not under investigation. "That's it. Simple explanation", Sekulow told CNN's "State of the Union".

After President Trump's senior advisor and son-in-law Jared Kushner was reported to have discussed setting up a secret and secure communications channel with Moscow during a meeting with Russia's ambassador to Washington, his representatives started contacting high-powered criminal lawyers about representing him, according to a report in The New York Times.

"If you're steeped in how to proceed, how to be fair, you should try to avoid recusing yourself", Mack said. Moreover, he used an Federal Bureau of Investigation computer to create a memo of an incident that took place within his scope of work, which involved a meeting with the president and the conversation that transpired between the then-acting director and the nation's chief executive.

Asked on NBC where the Senate Intelligence Committee's investigation stands, Sen. He added: "A lot of people have said, 'When do you think you'll be done?' Maybe the end of the year". And that mild statement, vigorously denied by Trump himself, and uncorroborated by any third party, is apparently most of what a charge of obstruction would be based on - that, plus the fact that Trump fired Comey.
