Trump's Lawyer Denies President Is Under Investigation

A lawyer for Presidnet Donald Trump is disputing that Trump confirmed an investigation

President Trump fired James Comey because the FBI director wouldn't publicly state that Trump wasn't under investigation.

"The President is not under investigation by the special counsel", Jay Sekulow said in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press".

President Donald Trump's personal lawyer says Mr Trump is not under investigation in the probe into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 USA presidential race, adding that the president has not received any notification that he is being investigated. But now Trump is under investigation-for firing Comey.

Earlier this week, when a Washington Post report was seemingly confirmed by the President himself on Twitter, it looked like Donald Trump was being investigated for obstruction of justice in the wake of his firing former F.B.I. director James Comey during the still-ongoing Russian Federation investigation.

Things got particularly contentious between Sekulow and Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace, who pointed out that Sekulow simply can not say whether the special counsel is investigating Trump.

"The president is not under investigation by the special counsel", said Sekulow.

"The president has strong feelings about it and (what) I would communicate to the white house and to the world through this broadcast is, let this thing work its way through, let it be thorough and complete so no one will have any doubt", Rubio added.

On Face the Nation, host John Dickerson asked Sekulow how does he know for sure that the president isn't under investigation?

President Donald Trump is beginning his day with a stream of tweets defending his record and lashing out at the investigation into Russian interference in the election.

James Comey, who was sacked by Trump last month, publicly testified this month that Trump had told him to ease off on his former national security adviser Michael Flynn, who was under the FBI investigation for his Russian links. "So here's what you have", Sekulow said.

Many took the message as a confirmation that Trump is under investigation, but Sekulow explained his client was talking about a different matter. It was a tactic that earned him incredulous pushback from his interviewers, all of whom pointed to Trump's own tweets. "No one has been notified that he is [under investigation]", Sekulow said.

Suggestions that Mueller is looking at Trump's actions grew last week when Mueller requested interviews with three high-ranking current or former intelligence officials, according to a person briefed on the investigation. Sekulow said that Trump would have challenged the basic assertion of the article, but was constrained by Twitter's limit of 140 characters per post.

Sekulow made a similar defense on the other Sunday shows, repeatedly insisting that the White House has received no notice of any investigation of Trump. What is clear is that he could order the Justice Department to ax Mueller, which may result in Rosenstein's departure and would certainly intensify the uproar over the investigation.

"The special counsel happens to be a close friend of Comey, which is weird", Gingrich said on This Week. "And as far as that goes, I'd say we're 20 percent into it", he said.

The order from the general counsel for the transition team casts a wide net on documents that could shed light on ties between Trump's presidential campaign and representatives of Russia's government. "And the president has a very effective utilization of social media".
