U.S. woman sues casino that 'offered dinner instead of $43m jackpot'

The casino said on November 3, 2016, that a woman who was shown that she won almost $43 million on a penny slot in August 2016 actually won $2.25.

But when Bookman attempted to cash out, a casino employee told her the machine had malfunctioned, and that she had actually only won $2.25.

A NY woman whothought she had won a life-changing jackpot is now suing a Resorts World Casino in Queens County Supreme Court, demanding that she get her payout from the slot machine.

At the time, Resorts World spokesman Dan Bank apologized and told CNN that "casino personnel were able to determine that the figure displayed on the penny slot was the result of an obvious malfunction - a fact later confirmed by the New York State Gaming Commission".

Before filing the lawsuit, Mr Ripka had reportedly been asking the casino to provide the Sphinx slot machine's stated maximum payout of $6,500. Instead, the mother of four filed a lawsuit against the casino off Rockaway Boulevard in the Queens County Supreme Court on Wednesday. Does that mean it wasn't inspected?

Ripka said he repeatedly asked Resorts World Casino what caused the machine to glitch but has not yet received an answer according to CNN. Ripka told CNN. "And if so, does that mean that people that played there before (Bookman) had zero chance of winning?".

In August 2016, Katrina Bookman was gambling at Resorts World Casino in Brooklyn, New York. She is also claiming "mental anguish" saying she had a "significant" financial setback because she "lost the chance and/or opportunity to win" on the machine in question.

In a similar incident, BBC.com reported that in 2011 an 87-year old grandmother was denied a payout of $42 million by the Iowa Supreme Court.

The casino said the machine malfunctioned and the courts agreed, saying that the game's rules set a $10,000 cap and no bonuses.
